Iv been giving my 3 week old Aylesbury duckling peak supps, vit B3 (Nicotinamide) powder. for a couple of days now and she seems to be gettin worse.
She steps on her own feet, cant stand for long and appears drunk. one minute she is ok and the next she is all wobbly again. I gather she needs extra Niacin?
Is this the right stuff as described above i should be giving her? Am i dosing her correctly i? Ive spent ages trying to work out what the differecne between non flush/flush free , its all so confusing. I just want to be advised how much to give her , what brand to buy/ and where i can get it. Im not sure if this is the right one ive been giving her. I have been making up the dose by weighing out 20G of VIT B3 powder then adding it to 200 ml of fresh water , mix it all together and syringing out 20ml into a small bowl and she drinks it. is this correct.?
Please advise.
Many Thanks in advancee.

You're welcome.

Could you post the brand of B3 powder you're using, and what feed you're feeding them?

its in a green bag
, size of a crisp packet. just noticed it says non flush on it ..
She is fed fancy feed company chick crumbs. Ive just ordered some VERSELE-LAGA-country best duck 1&2 growth crumble. which should arrive Thursday.

Omg I love this thread @Isaac 0!!!

OP- allllll the b vitamins are so much more important than most people give credit to for waterfowl. Of course Niacin, but that’s just one part. I like to use nutritional yeast like Isaac suggests in that post, and I use a b complex when therapeutic needs are there. I also keep Poultry Cell on hand as my go-to general supplement that all babies get immediately.

That’s great you ordered actual duck feed because most chick starters are low in niacin. I’m going to assume that the new feed you’re getting is around 55mg/kg, which should suffice for most breeds, but heavyweights (like an Alyebury) grow so fast they have a higher niacin requirement, around the 70mg/kg mark.

That said, I would add approximately 25 milligrams of the B3 powder over their feed, or mix it in with their water. You will need a milligram scale to accurately dose with the product you have since the mg per gram content is very high/potent around 100mg per gram. Do this until she is eight weeks, then you could just feed her the feed with no supplements as once heavyweight breeds are around eight weeks they’re niacin needs drop by 30%.

100%! This is a super common thing I hear ALL the time about brewers yeast, I’m SO glad Isaacs article explains the difference.

nutritional yeast provides a range of b vitamins.nutritionally they do not compare.
