What did you do in the garden today?

Watered my raised beds, it's been dry for weeks.

I'll be picking peas soon!

40% or better chance of rain every day tomorrow to Tuesday... I went ahead and planted the little Ozark Witch Hazel seedling. It has only been in the sunroom for a week but was stressed and losing leaves. Since these trees are native to the area and we have a good chance of rain coming up, I figured it would likely fair better in the ground. Fingers crossed! I can reach it with the hose, if needed...

A bit of drizzle here, not of much value to the garden. I planted Cactus Dahlias and another Salvia yest. Today I'm putting in two Buttercup Wrexham red hot pokers. I still have the raised vege beds to sort, been piling on the chicken bedding, scraps etc these past few months to top them up. The chickory is growing sky-high and is full of beautiful violet daisy-like flowers!

I took my Fido QS1 scooter for a ride today. It barely made it up a steep hill near my house and I almost ran into stuff along the narrow walkway until I got the hang of it, and a car turning right after stop almost hit me while the walk sign was still lit up at an intersection. It made me more aware of things and gave me some street experience. I went to my local bank and with drew some cash and went home. I could see where I would change my tires and service my car across the street from my bank, so my mission was accomplished. I found it better to ride on the side where car traffic is coming towards me, so I could ride on the road when it was clear. When traffic is at my back, I don't know what's going on. It's a good thing the Fido is slow, or I think I would have crashed on my first day out. It starts off at a snail's pace and gradually builds up speed up to 16 miles per hour. I was amazed that I still had a full charge when I got home.

I need to cover the beans for the next 2-3 nights. Then another 3? uncovered while we get another warm spell. Yes, they're still alive, but the leaves are mostly yellow now.

I sincerely doubt they'll escape freezing long enough for the pods to fully ripen, but who knows? Once I'm sure the plants are dead, I'll pick all the pods. I'll let them dry and shell the beans and see if they look like anything that might grow.

In any case, I am flat out amazed that I've been able to keep them alive this long, just covered with a couple of sheets. This has been an interesting experiment.

Praying for your success! 🙏

Today I put new scorzonera and carrot seeds in the spots that hadn’t sprouted. Still only had the original two scorzonera seedlings, the carrots had a better success rate. 🫤

my mother lives in 7b zone. people over there plant trees in november. if your seedling is too small you can put some straw around it to protect it a bit.

I watered the beds that are still producing. There’s no rain in the forecast for the next 10 days. The greens are growing very well except the collards are still slow. The spicy taste of the mustard has been tempered a bit by the several frosty mornings. But I am enjoying clean, pesticide free salad greens now into November. A nice treat. I’m leaving the carrots in the ground until I run out of what’s in my refrigerator.
