What did you do in the garden today?

I had a burst of motivation. I cleaned up the garden really well. Pulled the cucumbers, some of the spent squash, chopped back the crazy marigolds, cleaned up the tomato leaves, saved a bunch of seeds.

& took pics!
Saved zinnias (just cut the heads, will clean up later) & cosmos. I think theres more little spiders than seeds. 🧐

Puttering day...

I finally made myself call three separate businesses regarding work I need done around the house and yard. Both tree service owners came by, looked over my mess and told me what they could do and for how much.

In between those visits I emptied the rain barrel I'd placed where the downspout needs to go, and planted bed #1 with beets and Swiss chard.

The Detroit Dark Red beets, the Fordhook Giant and the rainbow assortment Swiss chard were older seeds. I planted them thickly to make up for expected lower germination.

Look at both plantings of peas!

The first planting is now climbing the trellis, the second planting has sprouted nicely!

I don't see that I did much, but I feel like I did.

I interviewed for a different position, it would be full time, higher pay. Hope I get it. I really do not want to keep juggling 2 jobs. It is too much on my back & I'm not 20 anymore.

I watered & picked more tomatoes 🍅 😋.

I need to do a lot around here. Clean up old scrap wood debris & garden stuff naturally. I water & look around at the to-do list.

I left seed heads from both the zinnias and marigold intact all winter last year, in the cool, dark shop building. I didn't separate the seeds out until spring rolled around.

I put my rooster on a diet. I feed him about1/2 cup of layer feed pellets a day, but I will by a local high protein fighting chicken blend for him the next time I go to the feed store. I got him locked up in a 10-foot-long pvc hoop pen. Wastewater from my fish tank eventually reaches his pen and evaporates. It keeps him cool in the summer heat.

I also, locked up his 5 hens to prevent them from laying eggs in the bushes. I found two separate nests the other day which explains why I haven't been seeing any eggs lately. I'll let them out near the end of day after they lay and lock them up at night. Hopefully, I see some eggs today.
