What did you do in the garden today?

Raining hard here also we needed rain but enough.
Can I say I have had enough.

I caught a raccoon in a trap last night, dispatched it, and buried it in the garden. I chose a weedy-ish spot on purpose so that I dug up the weeds there too.

Me too. A coon and opossum. Sadly, fur prices are low. So burying is best.

Significant rainfall coming this evening. DR appointment is today not tomorrow. Mouse catches have fallen. Getting under control.

Something ate the bait last night but didn't spring the trap. I think I stuck the springer hoookie thingie in too tight. I'll rebait and set it a little looser tonight.

My mosquito fish are inside for the winter. Genetic puzzle. I used a spotted / melanistic male. Only males can have this trait. I bought a pair online from Florida. Used regular virgin females also. Lots of fish. No spotted juvenile males. Only original spotted male. It seems to be sex linked and recessive. Mabe next generation will produce some. Trying to understand this.

They may not be pure bred or unstable; you may need to isolate and keep spawning the spotted male babies to the females of the same batch they showed up.

Shoulder Xray showed nothing wrong. DR said likely inflamed and angry. Cortisone shot and a couple of PT visits to teach me some exercises for the shoulder. Hope it works. Could be some tears in the rotator cuff but Xray's do not show tears.

I'm a lot better as far as getting injured and pain since I started doing classical stretch on PBS

I puttered around inside today. Hubby and Freya get home tomorrow, so it's the last chance to get stuff done and not have to work around anyone.

Dumped some spent bedding in my new raised planter boxes for next year. Beyond that not much today.

No luck on the missing hen. She was definitely missing during feeding time this morning. No feathers or evidence of any attack so either something snatched her and carried her off or she wandered away. There is someone with chickens, I think, on the other side of the overgrown 4 acre lot behind our barn. I can hear them occasionally. I've never had my birds leave my property except to steal bird seed from one neighbor whose backyard bird feeder is near the treeline right by my compost pile. That neighbor is very friendly and loves my chickens so I know they would never hurt any of them. We used to have a vixen and kits who had a warren somewhere on the vacant lot but I haven't seen any of them in over 2 years now. Coyotes are more likely... Or a hawk.
