What did you do in the garden today?

No luck on the missing hen. She was definitely missing during feeding time this morning. No feathers or evidence of any attack so either something snatched her and carried her off or she wandered away. There is someone with chickens, I think, on the other side of the overgrown 4 acre lot behind our barn. I can hear them occasionally. I've never had my birds leave my property except to steal bird seed from one neighbor whose backyard bird feeder is near the treeline right by my compost pile. That neighbor is very friendly and loves my chickens so I know they would never hurt any of them. We used to have a vixen and kits who had a warren somewhere on the vacant lot but I haven't seen any of them in over 2 years now. Coyotes are more likely... Or a hawk.
I would go meet the chicken neighbors. I have had them get chased, cross the road and keep going getting lost

Any idea what kind of squash she is eating?
It's from town folks Halloween decorations.

Still no rain here. It was below freezing by 6pm last night till 8:30am - so we had a real good freeze. Hoping my allergies get better. We packed up all the hoses & blew out the lines 2 days ago so I get to carry water from now till spring. Plugged in the heated waterers for the birds.

I sat in the hot tub & listened to the coyotes last night, they were loud.

I'm about 3/4 of the way done shoring up the new garden fence & staking the apron down, 1 gate done, 1 to go.

Had a Convo with the bunbun in the yard this morning. Told him if he leaves the bark on the apricot tree alone, I won't go all Mr. McGregor on him. Tossed him some alfalfa pellets, wrapped the tree, and put some blackberry leaves in his afternoon hidey hole.
Day 8 of sinus infection still going.
Forcing myself to bike 12 miles a day despite it.
Saw pots and planters on super clearance at TSC yesterday. An idea for all you container people.
Large 5 gallon planters for 2.50$

I hope you feel better soon. I will have to go to TSC today and check out the planters. Maybe I can get some for my berry bushes. Thank you for the heads up.

This morning I confirmed which chicken is actually missing. It's actually a little White Leghorn. For the past several months, she would fly over the fence around my run every single morning as soon as the automatic door on the coop opened. I come outside to feed everyone around an hour later and she typically comes back up to eat with everyone.

I realized this morning that I haven't seen her in the morning for 2 days. She is usually free ranging around the back fence or compost area.... Which would make it very easy for a coyote or fox to poach her if they were hunting around dawn. I did reset the automatic door to open a little later but it's still not fully light outside when the door opens. FWIW, she was the only hen to do that... I have others who jump the fence too but they typically wait until after morning feed to do it.
