What did you do in the garden today?

Nearly 50 here and spitting a little rain. There are still a few mounds of snow left in places.

The onion seedlings were falling over so they got a haircut. The trimmings will go into tomorrow's scrambled egg breakfast.

Deer @30 yards knows that hunting season is over...

This is where I'm planting some of my tomatoes this year. Last summer I mowed the grass short, covered the area with kraft paper and topped it with 6 inches of woodchips.

There are some black currants and red raspberries planted there already, but since they're small I'll fit the tomatoes in where I can. And I'll put a fence around the bed to keep deer out.

Boy- your egg basket is gorrrrgeous!!
Thank you... It was intentional. I chose specific breeds to give me that basket. 😊 One thing I've learned, though, is that after a couple of generations it all gets muddled. The greens are more olive. Blues are more of a dull blue-green. Of course that's because of my roosters - 5 are blue-egg gene (Ameracauna, Cream Legbar, and Isbar) and 1 is a terracotta gene (Welsummer).

Supposed to get into the negatives (F) overnight. I have NEVER gotten cold wind from the northeast, so it was hitting the coop door at just the wrong angle. 3 inches of snow covering coop, roosts, and birds.

They can handle the cold, but the icy wind blowing right on them while covered with a layer of ice...

I just finished moving them into the dormant greenhouse until this storm is over. It may still get cold, but they have dry woodchips and they're protected from the wind.

None of them fought capture, so they must be really cold.

Still trying to get the raised pallet beds filled. @TJAnonymous, I thought about getting an avocado tree but I then decided that the size is just too outrageous for my little bit of property. I would love to see some pictures of it if you do get one though because that's probably the only tree that I haven't ever seen.
The avocado will likely be grown in a mineral tub, like my lemon tree, so I can bring it indoors in the winter... Unless I hit the lottery and can afford to put in a big heated and cooled greenhouse. 😂

I have always thought about how cool it would be to grow one but I think it said that the diameter could be like 25 ft wide. I just went oh woe holy cow that's crazy insane but I still think that if I had enough property I would have at least one.

It might get that big further south and planted in the ground... But grown in a pot, max size is about 5' - 6'

FWIW, I need to probably STOP buying trees that have to come indoors for the winter. My sunroom already looks like a jungle with a big Meyer lemon, 6 - 8 big pineapple plants, plumeria, hibiscus, a tree philodendron, and 2 big Mandevilla plants. In my bedroom, I have a grow tent with a Cocoa tree, Vanilla Orchid, more pineapple and Pomegranate seedlings. 😂 At least the pomegranates will be planted outdoors once spring comes officially.
