What did you do in the garden today?

Our feed store is charging $7.99 for production breeds (RIR, Orpingtons, Ideal, etc) and $8.99 - $9.99 for "designer" breeds like Marans, Cream Legbar, etc... I refuse to pay those prices so I'm hatching my own chicks instead.
Wow! I got 6 chicks a few weeks ago, and they were only 3.99. (And I thought that was overpriced, lol. Marans and sexlinks.

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

I'm just starting my garden! I planted some sunflower seeds, cucumbers, and tomatoes next to marigolds and nasturtium. Any advice is appreciated!

Well actually, thanks for the reminder, I did that, when I plant tomatoes 🍅 I put a whole egg in the hole, crack it and plant my tomato plant.. They grow great!! The egg feeds the plant.

I did it once and never again. my stupid dogs destroyed all the tomato plants where I cracked eggs. they didn't touch the whole ones.

Got a lot done outside yesterday. Not too windy some sun and 50. Rain coming tonight and tomorrow. I have an experiment going. I got Adaria plum scion yesterday. Clonal rootstock that is compatible with cherries. I have wild plum thickets that are all clones of one tree and never fruit. Got moved around with dirt during construction 30 years ago. I plan to graft Adara onto wild plums as a interstem and graft sweet cherries onto them next year. Adara fell out of favor commercially but popular with backyard grafters for being compatible with a lot of stone fruits.

36 out,,
Today I wont be in the garden or fruit Tree garden.
I have errands all day. I am going to work the ground around the fruit trees tomorrow. Here is what I got,
So these fruit trees are old, 30, 35 yrs
This first one is an Asian Pear just about to bloom. We get about 12 or so pears. The small one with white flowers next to it, I don’t know what it is. It’s off the root from either the Asian Pear, plum or apple.

or the next tree an Italian Plum. We get about 10 to 15 plums.

And then we have a apple tree that put out a lot of fruit and 4 old blueberries

Now last year I was busy tending to my DH, I never got down to this area. The poor Elder Berries were neglected.
One so far has growth

G’morning all. It’s breezy but we are supposed to be cooler today. I’m good with that, the front door is open and the house is cooling off. I topped up the last raised bed with a thick layer of compost, put in a couple of transplants but still need to go out and mulch. I’ll do that while the crew eats later. The little succulent I moved outside seems to be unhappy with all the sun so I put on the ground and will probably move it to where it gets more shade. That’s about all for me outside today, my kitchen has been quite busy and I need to get it back under control; it’s scary in there! The next project will be topping up the other beds with some compost and then I have to get on that wall and pathway before it gets too hot. Fortunately we are supposed to remain fairly cool over the next week.
