What did you do in the garden today?

I have a lot to do today.... Wednesday - Saturday will be filled with heavy rain (4-6" in total) and, of course, potential for tornados & baseball sized hail. To add injury to the insult, mother nature is dropping us back into the 30s at night directly afterwards. 🙄 So sometime on Saturday I'm going to have to brave the rain to go cover my mandevilla with something to help protect it from the cold.

I'm not going to try second guessing nature this year. Last year's temperature histories for April, May and June 2024 show days in April and May with lows near or below freezing, no good for peppers or tomatoes. Also, the soil will be too cool for the plants to grow. That's why I'm not putting them in the garden until June this year.

Yesterday I cleaned up around my heather plants on the slope. They are looking really good. I’ll take a picture when that area is totally groomed. I’m going to be holding my breath overnight. Yesterday was in the low 60’s and it never cooled down too much overnight. The forsythia are on the verge of blooming as is my peach tree. I’m hoping they all hold off on blooming today. The temperature overnight could make it down to 25F. The long term forecast looks more positive for the next ten days. So fingers crossed it will be ok. Last year I covered the tree when we had a freeze. A lot of buds were knocked off so I had a small harvest.

Well slap my (bleep) and call me Sally! 😳😱😳😱😳😱

I'm out thinning and bagging baby peaches and I just happened to look at the plum tree next to it. THERE'S BABY PLUMS ON THIS TREE! I have no idea how it got pollenated... The other plum tree I have wasn't flowering. The only thing in visible range of these trees that was flowering at the same time was the peaches and my dogwood trees.

My ghast is flabbered...

I got my bottle drippers in the mail, but the pointy end that sticks in the ground seem unstable, especially in perlite. I decided to stick the drip part in a square bottle instead and got it to work without any leaks and to drip at the rate I wanted. The solution should last all day based on the rate its dripping. It took two days to empty on a previous test run at a slower drip. I can see the drip rate from the bucket where it drains, so I know it's working.
