What did you do in the garden today?

One of the easier vegetables to grow IMO.

It would have to be, with me at the helm!
I had no idea what to expect with it. No one else I know grows it.

My asparagus is coming up! I'd never planted asparagus before last year, and I'm such a lazy, slap dash style of gardener I was very skeptical that anything would come of it . . . but it's back! And holy moly, it's looking so much different than the spindly little things that grew from the seed last year. I'm tickled pink over this.

Just remember not to harvest any until year 3.... So tempting though!

just got back from town - forgot my wallet so had to come back home but the PRICE OF CHICKS.
They had 15 of 25 sold, rest were Cornish meat....
but they were 11.99 a CHICK! OMG! Just brahmas, nothing fancy or earth shattering!

Talk about highway robbery and we ain't even on the highway!

Not in the garden exactly, but I picked a bunch of dandelions and wild violets in the yard and made jelly.

No dandelion blossoms here yet but I plan to enjoy a few messes of dandelion greens when they show up, and dip a bunch of blossoms in thin batter and deep fry them. Deep fried dandelion blossoms are tasty!

I gave half of my second batch of yellow onions I started from seed to my neighbor for her to plant in her garden. I'm going to plant the ones I kept in between the rows of shallots I planted, which are nearly a foot apart. Plenty of room for onions in between them.

I broke down and bought some chicks today, spur of the moment. Had to make a 130 mile round trip, but got 7 (6+1 for free) at $5.99 each. New Hampshire Reds.

Today, we got a lot of rain. I actually saw a small puddle in my heavy soil garden. Some of the path in the field was squishy.

It's raining again, but I think we're ok. I hope a lot of this rain will soak into the ground. We've been in a drought.
