What did you do in the garden today?

It is the only, professional, one handed saw from Stihl, MS 201 T , very lightweight ( only 3.4 kg) but works better than the regular ones, it cut oak without a hitch

The internet lied to me about the Calypso beans not needing trellising; one or two of them had bent and flopped over when I checked on them today. I put a bamboo skewer in to support the flopped-over vines, hopefully no permanent harm done.

We've had FOUR....yes FOUR...Stihl chainsaws stolen in the past 15 years. Apparently thieves love them. We are on our 5th one now... A Farm Boss...and it's under surveillance and lock & key.

It is. The confusion comes from similar common names. Chokeberry and chokecherry.

Morning grocery shopping. I looked at fruit trees and was tempted. Cloudy chilly day here.

I tried to make aronia syrup for ice cream and cheesecake using just sugar and pectin. It didn't work either...

I tried to make syrup with elderberries and it was more like juice. I've been using it as a liquid substitution in things like pancakes.

It is - aronia are chokeberries (Aronia melanocarpa). Chokecherries (Prunis virginiana) are a different plant. I actually have both planted.

Morning grocery shopping. I looked at fruit trees and was tempted. Cloudy chilly day here.

I'm always tempted by fruit trees! I have a particular weakness for pawpaw trees and I have brought home a dozen so far.

I think we must be twins... I just bought 2 pawpaws to plant this year. I haven't planted them yet because it's been too wet but I did repot them. Haven't decided if I'll plant them in the next few weeks or wait for fall...

As for other fruit trees, I've planted 4 varieties of apples, 2 varieties of peaches, 2 types of plums, 3 pomegranates, 3 types of grapes, aronia, a Meyer lemon, and a mulberry.

Next on the wish list: a Toka Plum, Lapins sweet cherry, and still mulling over Arbequina olive and an Avocado tree.

I guess I'm inclined towards trees that can feed my family, have medicinal value, or attract pollinators.

My daughter bought me 2 paw paw trees for xmas, I was so excited, have wanted them forever. Then she wasn't able to make it here for the holidays. Hope she's keeping them alive and I get them someday. To be honest, the fact that she knew me well enough to know I'd want them was gift enough!
