What did you do in the garden today?

Did a little cut and squirt on some brush trying to take over. Really short of breath lately. Trying to get an appoint with my cardiologist. I think I am in AFIB. Pulse 93 to 103 and oxygen 97 to 100. Efficiency must be low.
When I had covid they said if oxygen goes below 90 go to the ER.

But dammit, I made eye contact. He was in the cage, curled up like a puppy and he looked up at me like a baby, said his name was Mitch, had 8,000 babies, and a wife and he was sorry - he'd never come back again........ sigh. So my neighbor is coming over to take care of him after work.
I put the cage on our hay sled and put him out dark quiet shop for the day (climate controlled and still) so he could sleep his day away without panic.
It's horrible when they reach up and tap the barrel of my pistol when I'm trying to get a good shot.

I planted my determinate Shelby paste tomato in my DYI earth box today. I made some improvements to the plastic cover. Once the white duct tape touches the plastic it stays on and is hard to remove without ripping the plastic, so it waterproofs the cut.

I placed an original earth box next to the DYI tote to put it in perspective. The tote is 3 times larger and needs way more lime and fertilizer. I calculated the tote holds around 3.50 cu feet of potting mix and the Garden tone organic fertilizer instructions say to use 2 cups per cu feet, so I put in 6 cups of fertilizer and same amount of lime to adjust for the 3-inch water reservoir. The water reservoir holds 4 gallons of water which is twice as much as the original earth box.

I will put up a shade cloth if the Shelby tomato start to look run down. However, it supposed to be heat loving and able to set fruit in extreme weather conditions. The description says:
  • The Shelby Tomato is a determinate hybrid variety.
  • Thrives in conditions where other tomatoes struggle.
  • Extensive disease resistance sets it apart.
  • San Marzano-style fruit with dark red, extra-large fruits.
  • Fruits weigh between 3.5 to 5.5 ounces.
  • Elongated barrel-style stores well after harvest.
  • Hardy and compact plants that produce even in harsh conditions.
  • Solanum Lycopersicum.
  • 75 Days to Maturity. Pelleted.

Allllllllmost got my irrigation system back up to par. I have everything repaired and reset except for one line. The last line is for the in-ground garden area. I want to actually get stuff in the soil before the make changes to that line. I also bought a flow gauge to keep tabs on how much water is being used. I didn't use the irrigation system at all last year but in 2023 my water bill went crazy. I thought DH was going to have a stroke. 👀 I definitely need to keep a close eye on it this year.

Anyway, one more thing to check off the to-do list.

Turns out one of the 'neighbors', about 3/4 of a mile over the hill has been feeding the wildlife for years. ALL the wildlife. I knew about the deer and the birds and squirrels, but she puts out nighttime feed for the nocturnals. Other neighbor says she has a huge number of raccoons the size of puppies show up to eat. UGH.
Well, this one wasn't afraid of people or noise or anything. And you can't have too many in one spot, so I figure it either was sick, or got run out of the area to find it's own territory. Guess she's down a raccoon.
UGH UGH UGH
