What did you do in the garden today?

G’morning all. I looked at the corn yesterday and was wondering if it’s time for another feeding, need to check when I did that last. When I thought the birds got luffa seeds I put in an orange melon instead and then both the luffa and the melon sprouted but only one of each. I cut off the luffa sprout at ground level and decided to keep the melon growing there. It’s food and if it isn’t great I can always make melon jam with it. The Roselle is doing well, I need to fertilize it and put some more mulch in that bed. We are supposed to cool off quite nicely today and I could hear the wind chimes intermittently through the night. I went outside when I got up and it’s really nice out there. Trying to soak that up as much as possible while it lasts.

New roof, new siding, new deck for me.
can repair the greenhouse enough to get it through the season myself
I can repair the roof of the brand fricken new chicken broody coop myself.
I lost all the planters in the garden tower.
few branches in the orchard.
It dented the crap out of the metal siding too.
I am exhausted and we got off easier than others.
Contractor and claims guy will both be here tomorrow.
2 inch hail......so sick of hail
:hugs :barnie

I got everything watered yesterday and mowed the lawn. Tested some of my drip lines that are set up and made adjustments. Leaving to go camping this morning. Bitter sweet. I could be in the garden.... 😂

One of my hens is trying to be broody... Of course, one day before we leave. 🙄 I put her in jail overnight. I doubt it helped. But I can hope.

Watered the new trees and dug up some brown eyed Susans to start in a new spot. Taking a break. Monday got to be at hospital at 5:30 AM for 7 AM procedure. Going to shock my heart Cardioversion. Did not work 4 years ago but this is how I get to the next step in June. Got my meds. Taking care of me. 79 and rain coming about 4 PM.

I went out to do a little surveying of what gardening tasks i might get done this weekend and discovered I have teeny tiny nectarines. And even better, the biggest of the dozen pawpaws I've put in the last 2-3 years has blooms for the first time. I'm very excited about this!

I finished preparing the spot I'll be planting rattlesnake beans in late May or early June.

I finished breaking up the dirt clods...

IMG_5403.JPG

Topped with chicken run compost and raked it in...

IMG_5405.JPG IMG_5407.JPG IMG_5408.JPG

Covered it with a layer of Kraft paper...

And covered the paper with 4 inches of well rotted woodchips.

It should be good to go when it's time to plant my beans.

I did the same thing to the area to the left last year, planning to turn it into a large berry patch. Plans changed. I left four black currant plants on one end, and the rest of the section will be for peppers and tomatoes. I'll start putting up a deer fence next time I have the energy to work.

No gardening today. Just a little shopping. I finished topping off the potato bed and the new raised bed is ready for planting. I picked up the dirt I ordered for the last new raised bed. It might be a few days before that gets filled. But since next week is school vacation week the grand kids are coming over on Earth Day to help with planting. Potatoes, peas, carrots, kale, baby bok choi for starters. I think the pot I planted tarragon in last year is actually sprouting again. Fingers crossed. Tomorrow we are getting a blast of heat into the 70’s so that should kick start the warming of the soil.
