What did you do in the garden today?

I'm finally done planting. I think I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 pepper plants. 😳 It's insane but I honestly didn't think that all of the pepper seeds that got mixed up would sprout and I think almost every dog gone one of them did. I didn't find many seeds left in the box as I transplanted them. I don't think I will go without salsa this year. I still need to get the carrots and parsnips planted. Also my radishes. Now I need to take care of the chickens and ducks and the dog and her puppies.

I remember planting tomatoes I'd bought in a fit of optimism in a warm spell in March. Then a cold snap and they shriveled up and died. Now I always plant Easter weekend or after. I put in mine this weekend.
I'm not planting my tomatoes outside until around June 1st. The seedlings I screwed up with are still inside under the grow lights. I have the new planted seeds sitting on a heating pad now until they start sprouting.

I saw more peas coming up today. Maybe the old seeds will come through for me. The new seeds sprouted fast.

Looking around the edge of the woods I see that I'll be having quite a few Oregon Grape berries to pick this summer. I might try making wine from them because the jelly I made last year didn't turn out too good. Wine would be more fun. LOL

Thank you.
I will leave it as it is then, shame that it just does not bear fruits that big enough to eat....

I think that tree is grafted.

It is in the middle of my chicken run, and my chickens have only being there less than 8 years.
Not sure what zone you are in. There are hybrids with Asian persimmon that are larger. You could possibly grow pure Asian depending on your zone. I will be grafting a hybrid this year. In 5b my choices are few on Asian hybrids.

I am in Australia. I don't know what Zone I am in.

This persimmon tree my mom got it from the Sunday market and I believe it is crafted. Its fruit started green then turn bright orange, still solid, but sweet and edible. It does not need to be soft to beat.
It produces a small size fruit that once the hard skin removes, it does not have much to eat.

I will check out Asian persimmon today.

That Easter rule might be a southern thing -I’m guessing it gets pushed back the farther north you are. Oregon grape wine sounds interesting - we don’t have those here.

Trust me, it’s just not an Oregon thing. I’m in central New England. Our last frost date is 15 May. I still try to plant earlier and keep frost covers handy.

I think Oregon Grape plants are a west coast US thing. It's a native plant. It has medicinal uses too from what I've read. I have a few packets of wine yeast so I might as will use them for something and see how it works out.

The strawberry crowns and blackberries came today. Now the clock is ticking to get 70 strawberries in the ground between work and other commitments. 😩

I watered today. That's all I had time for.

My least favorite weed is goat heads... Their caltrops are viable for way too long.... Found my first sprout of the year yesterday. I will be looking for them like a hawk now.
