What did you do in the garden today?

Who likes shotweed? They are my nemesis, along with the rest of the weeds. What is your worst weed?
Stinging nettles! I know they have a lot of good properties, but the roots go down way deep and choke off the other plants, also, the seeds are lightweight and fly all over the garden, causing fresh stinging nettles to grow everywhere, and, as the name says, they STING 🙄

Is that the same thing as hairy bittercress? Hate that stuff. I hate most non-native invasive weeds. But I most especially loathe the (native) poison ivy,
Ugh hairy bittercrest is everywhere this year! I swear we brought it onto our land in a nursery pot and it has made itself at home. Well at least it's edible. Someone can come have a feast at my house.

I am in Australia. I don't know what Zone I am in.

This persimmon tree my mom got it from the Sunday market and I believe it is crafted. Its fruit started green then turn bright orange, still solid, but sweet and edible. It does not need to be soft to beat.
It produces a small size fruit that once the hard skin removes, it does not have much to eat.

I will check out Asian persimmon today.
I did not know you are in Australia. I answered as if you were in USA.I figured you had a wild American type. Since the skin is hard it is probably Asian as American persimmon get soft with a thin skin. You need a variety with larger fruit. I know everyone likes their privacy but putting your country on your bio helps when getting answers.

That Easter rule might be a southern thing -I’m guessing it gets pushed back the farther north you are. Oregon grape wine sounds interesting - we don’t have those here.
It's a very Southern thing. Sort of... I was born, raised, and spent half my adult life in Alabama. I'd have a full garden in by the end of March.

Miss those days and that long growing season! But not the bugs. :) Now we're in the NC mountains at 3600' and I never plant annuals until June. Frost date here is May 15th but the soil and overall temp usually isn't warm enough to grow tomatoes, okra, cukes etc until then.

It seems like you're not far from me (eastern TN?) but maybe you're at a lower elevation?

I'm harvesting asparagus right now but haven't even started gardening yet, besides putting in our yearly strawberries.

Canada thistle is a pain here. Thorns that have some kind of irritant on them that causes painful swelling when they stick you. Roots that travel underground for yards that send up new plants.

Because I won't use herbicides in my garden it took three years of chopping down every plant I saw to finally kill the root system. I still see a few in other areas, but the garden bed that was infested is now pretty much free of them. I saw a few tiny ones last year, but maybe they were from seeds?

put some fresh manure on any thorny weed. they should burn.

I screwed up by transplanting my tomato seedlings too soon. And I tried to cheap out by using poor quality potting soil. The seedlings haven't grown at all since I moved them to the larger pots a week ago, and they look a sickly yellow-green. Live and learn what you can't get away with.

I'm starting over and planted 24 seed cells with tomato seeds this morning, 3 varieties, three seeds in each cell. I'll thin each to the best plant. They'll be small when I put them in the garden in June, but I think they'll do OK.

I use cheap poor soil as well. maybe your seedlings were cold, wet and without sufficient light? transplanting too soon kills them too. I wait till their stalks are thick and sort of purple before transplanting them to the garden.

I have persimmon tree that was planted over 30 years ago. It fruited plenty of tiny fruits, too small to eat. I was busy so never pay any attention, now I will.

This tree is less than 2m in height. I need to up roost this tree and replant it some where else.

I am worried that it will not survive the autumn cold soil if I up roost it in this cold weather.

Any advice you can give on when it is best to up roost an old tree? Thanks in advance

30 yo? I would leave it alone.
