What did you do in the garden today?

I got 2 more hanging grow bags planted with strawberry roots and hung on a new pole. I think the next 2 empty bags I’ll plant the excess runners so no more purchasing. These are all ever bearing strawberries from Gurneys. I had ordered a ph and garden soil fertility tester from Amazon and it arrived today. It works really well. So the small pea bed is ready to plant. I need to finish cleaning the 16 foot long bed to plant peas in there as well. This morning I removed the frost cover from the asparagus bed. Yay! There are 10 tips coming up and looking good. My purple azalea is blooming now. So the next few days I’ll be planting the peas and potatoes. The temperatures have been nice, although a little warmer than average. Since our last frost date is 15 May, everything I’m planting can be easily covered if the temperatures plummet. I haven’t checked on my grapes in a couple of weeks so hopefully I can get up there later today. I had an exceptionally handsome dude visit this morning. This is one of my favorite things to see when starting the day.

That boy has a nice beard!

Hung a Fushia plant up for the hummingbirds last night, and planted a bell shaped clematis.
The tomato seedlings are still in the heated seeding shed. I'll up-pot them this weekend. The ones from the seeds I saved are twice the size as the store bought seeds. That's interesting. I also lost about 50% of store bought seeds to rot at the soil level. Also interesting.

I've noticed a real lack in quality seed available in the past 4 years.

Well thanks to @WthrLady suggestion on the mints, I managed to capture the trash panda that was raiding the barn! 👏 I didn't have any horse treats so I made a trail with those soft butter mints you get at restaurants... It worked! Cats ignored it but the coon found it irresistible. Dude has been released at the state park, far from homes.

They can travel up to 10 miles in one night. Once they have been in a box trap they are next to impossible to catch in one again. I have town folk dropping them off by me all the time. People say they don't see the no trespassing sign they are parked in front of when I catch the person. have had over 140 racoons since covid
Also most die a slow death when released

Not legal to dump them somewhere else here. You can't release them further than 100 yards from where they're caught here. LOL. So they're caught and dispatched.
Same here.
Back when I was tender hearted, I caught one in the attic. Grabbed the babies, fixed the hole in the soffit and stuffed the babies in an out building. Then released her in the building. She went in and grabbed a baby, climbed the gutter. I figured she would give up 😂. She tore up the attic vent bird guard to get back in . Of course now I could not catch her
Eventually they got big enough that they went out and I put several layers of heavy duty hwc over the inside of the vent
Nowadays they all die, no mercy

He's in the middle of 1000 acres of hills, caves, lakes and streams. There's very few houses in the surrounding areas around that state park. Most people around here have owned huge tracts of acreage for generations... Especially around the state parks because they get prime $$$ to host deer camps.

If he stayed here, he'd end up eating a bullet. At least there he has a reasonable chance. It's spring, warm temperatures and abundant food and water sources and plenty of habitat. He will not be back...trust me. And he's more than 10 miles from my house.

I'm more concerned about siblings he might have had lurking around.

Arkansas is not strict like that... Here you can live trap and relocate most game (raccoons, possum, skunks, bobcat, coyotes, squirrels, etc...). You don't need a permit.

The park rangers at the state parks are usually willing to allow people to release nuisance animals. I still ask though every time.
