What did you do with your flock today?

I forgot to lock the chicken hatch again last eve so my bandits are out roaming the yard. I love seeing them out and about, plus DH is not home so hall pass 👍 View attachment 4083427Girls have been laying gangbusters still. 21 eggs in 3 days from 10 chooks. Terrific chickens.

I do need to get out there and do a big clean after I tidy up the kitties. Going to be another busy day.
I guess he's not on this thread, or you wouldn't be telling on yourself. Your flock was no doubt eggcited to be free.

They got more wrinkled apples today. Has anyone had a chicken with stubby toes? I noticed one of mine (she doesn’t like me close by, she happened to be roosting where the fence was between us) and she has on one foot, toes that look shorter, and the nail is inside the end of the toe. Don't know if I can even get a photo. She's a skittish one.

Can't say I've seen that on any of mine but I have seen it as a birth defect or as the result of injury or frostbite. Please try to get a photo, I'd be interested to see it. If the nails are still present it would suggest a congenital defect to me.

Yes! I lease a 13.2 halflinger mare named JuneBug and have ridden for 5 years!

You two look great!

I believe we have all been quite busy with spring activities. My two 9 mo. old kitties have been leaving their presents near the door, so I just toss them to the girls. Over the last few days, 2 shrews, and today a mouse, or large shrew. Do shrew have ears? This one did. So entertaining to watch the game. Have tilled the dirt floors of the coop and fenced run areas, closely followed by the girls who find all the worms and other goodies.
Didn't realize my Sapphire blue girls are 3 years old until I saw my history post about them being 6 weeks old.
So glad it's been drier, so the eggs aren't so dirty anymore.
I have found a couple eggs on the dirt floor in the last week, like someone couldn't wait for the favorite nesting box to be available.
Do chickens have control over the laying process, or not at all?
Kind of like peeing your pants if the bathroom's not available?
