Oh my! I can just imagine that little squeaky 'crow'! Ferdy sounded like a gate hinge that needed oiling. And treating his mom at two weeks! I bet that looked as adorable as it soundsI did, indeed, mean a cockrel that was all man very early on. I haven't seen him try to mount anyone, but he was tid bitting for his mom by week 2 or 3.
Ngl, the first time he crowed, I thought he had been stepped on by his mom. It sounds really funny when they're still in the peeping stage.
Thank you for the info! Your Ferdy sounds amazing!
Hmm, bit of a mystery, then. Could it be a hernia that's popping out when she lays making her feel off for a few days then going back in? Has she ever prolapsed or been eggbound? Kurby22's idea of a calcium supplement is a good shout, it may help and if Onyx doesn't need it, she'll excrete it onto her eggshells. They'll go rough and may have lumps on them. If that happens you'll know she doesn't need it and stop giving it. Low risk strategy that could help.About a day later. She is still not letting me catch her.
O that sounds wonderful! Hopefully someday I'll manage to interest hubby in traveling somewhere besides Mexico...It was absolutely amazing! The architecture is so beautiful, the food is great and the people are friendly. We did a bit of island hopping - Murano, Burano, Lido and Torcello - too. If we can get pet sitters, were planning on going to Florence in September.
I'd happily do a casino in Vegas too! I'd probably come back bankrupt however
What breed is Iri? I love her eyes.I've been a bit distracted here...I have 3 pets aging fast this summer. My two 13 year old dogs and Oliver, my 14 year old cat. They were all doing well and suddenly Olivers losing weight and my gentle butterfly chaser, Iri, has developed lymphoma. We've pulled her through once now but I don't know how much longer she has. For now she's back to happy eyes and wagging tail. She has the most expressive eyes you ever saw . The other is Fox, our old girl with a broken thyroid. She lost her thyroid when only half grown and I always thought we'd lose her first. She's grown old slowly whereas Oliver and Iri started the year doing great, but just like that they're starting to fail.
Losing one old darling at a time is hard...but with 3 making worry and Iri's time limited for certain ...I'm just feeling under the weather. I have a trip to visit my mom coming up and this time I don't want to go. Tami's staying home though and she'll handle any vet runs, injections or medicine as needed. With luck all 3 will still be here when I get home early July.
My babies in younger days.

No hernia or prolapse, ever. She is almost 2 years old, and lays the largest eggs of all the girls. I'll have to catch her and pop a calcium.Hmm, bit of a mystery, then. I swear chickens invent ailments just to confound us!
