With Freya, that's Back Seat. She gets the whole back seat. But she gets into the front seat when she's waiting in the car for us.

Another good command for all of our dogs has been Inside. Go inside the house, get in the car, get in your crate, etc.
Good one!!!

This is just for curiosity sake and discussion. What do YOU consider basic obedience for a dog!? As in, what commands are essential for them to know. And what commands are basic obedience versus tricks!?

To me, basic obedience includes sit, stay, down, come, and heel and/or loose leash walking.

Those are ESSENTIAL for any dog in my opinion. But ESPECIALLY stay and COME. and SIT. If nothing else, I would teach those three. But preferably all five.

OH!!!!

And a good LEAVE IT! And DROP IT!!!!

Those are vital, essential, and lifesaving commands as well.

So seven.

What commands do YOU consider essential!?!?!?!

Feel free to chime in here or even disagree (politely and respectfully of course!!!!)!!!!!!

And vote in the poll!!!!!
This is for dogs right, not chickens? Because if your birds do this, then damn mine are slackers!!

My dog should always be focused on me on leash. This is the first thing I teach them on leash, and why I work them in distracting situations. In fact, the more distracting the circumstances, the more he should focus on me, this could save his life. This was how I taught my classes.
I personally don't do that because I like to do free walks where they can sniff and be dogs, within reason(no pulling or disobedience of course) but they have separate commands for a focused heel and a let's just have a fun walk heel.
