I'm very interested in the bantam breeds. Other than the orpingtons, which other breed of bantam is very docile?

I have a 3 year old son, who loves animals. The chicks will be handled A LOT, played with every day. Which bantam breed can I trust with him, especially when it's time to gather eggs? Cause I know he's going to want to do that!

My mille fleur d'Uccles were all very sweet, including the roosters! Silkies are also very docile. Also bantam plymouth rocks.

THough you'll have to socialize them a lot while they're young, hold them every day and bring them treats, otherwise they probably will want nothing to do with you.

Japanese Bantams are excellent pets and the hens are excellent mothers. They will take down a dog, cat, large rooster etc. if they get near their babies but will let you pet and hold the babies!! I have raised them over 25 years. A very good choice

Really any bantam is an excellent mother !!

Japanese, Modern Game, Serama: My Japanese was very jealouse of my dog too. They are very loving. Modern Game are just friendly and talkative with out you even getting to know them. Cochins are docile I havent had all of them but those I have had. I have Silkie babies now.

dutch bantams also seem to be very friendly docile birds.
i have one that i put down in the grass and if any chicken comes near her she jumps on my lap for protection. and others have said theirs are also exceptional.
i have to also add that i agree with the above suggestions also, seramas are very calm birds, silkies well who doesnt love them. (pc)

I'm really loving my Japanese bantams!! I've got three now and am thinking about ordering hatching eggs. Perhaps we should list breeds that are known to be aggressive/not so willing to be touched. My RIR bantam has been people anti-social since day one. However, she was an excellent substitute mommy to my Buckeye chicks! (which are now almost as big as she)

Oh forgot to add cochins and seramas! Seramas seriously are probably the sweetest, easy going and also most beautiful birds too! Top it all off, they're the smallest breed!

Sorry...didn't want to edit or start a new thread...

Now, let me add another criteria to this...which friendly bantam breed is best suited for the Michigan winters? I live in the thumb, so it gets quite cold and sometimes lots of snow. However, in the winter months my chicken coop will be moved into a storage shed. So snow or wind will not be an issue...just cold.
