I went to let chickens out this morning and saw this coming out of my chicken. On her roost from her vent to THE FLOOR. It’s at least 5 feet long. It’s still just hanging out. She’s a year old, has been laying for months. She’s acting fine, eating, drinking, and tried to go outside with her sisters. I brought her inside, to isolate her. She pooped, and this string thing is still hanging there. I’ll attach a picture of her poop as well.

It does seem to look like thick mucus. Maybe it is a reproductive disorder. Has she been acting different, and have you seen any soft or shell-less eggs, egg membranes or lash material?
No. She lays every other day, and they’re perfect eggs. I’ve looked at her vent and it’s not swollen or red, no prolapse. She’s acting perfectly fine.

I will also add: the bubbles in the droppings- that more times than not- with the added images can mean there is a disturbance within. There seems to be a imbvalance in digestion, but less likely it is a parasite, as you would see more symptoms- and a great distance is unlikely as when I encounter them- they are no more than a couple inches at best.
Observe: If it’s just once or twice and your chicken seems fine, it may pass on its own.
Check diet: Avoid too much fruit, bread, or fermentable scraps.
Probiotics: Consider adding a probiotic to support healthy gut flora.
Deworm if needed: Especially if they free-range or you see recurring issues.
Isolate and monitor: If it persists or you notice other symptoms.

Edit: I should say that it is not 'a' worm. but it could be caused BY capillary worms. Levamisole will take care of just about everything- ivermectin is not suitable.

Thank you! I can definitely do a vitamin or probiotic for her. It’s the strangest thing…she perfectly fine, her comb is nice and red like always. Eating great, and walking around without a problem in the world.
