Warning: dead chicken photos.

Can anyone help me with what could have happened. I need to know if it looks anyone like it could have been something contagious that spread to the rest of the flock.

Details: Older 7 year old cuckoo Maran hen acting fine in the morning, suddenly I heard wing flapping and found her like this. Images are taken later. No wounds I could find anywhere. She had not laid eggs all year and has had a small comb all year but assumed this was normal due to age now I’m concerned. She did not lay much last year either. She was acting normal acting happy ajd good spirits all year this year and in the morning. Weight was good.

Thank you to anyone who could help. . I feel so so guilty and horrible not noticing anything was wrong 😭😭

Purple face/skin indicates heart attack. Sometimes the discoloration can be seen through out the rest of the skin of the body.
She is old, so her heart most likely gave out before she was ready.

Hi sorry for your loss. It always happens that they are fine one day and then the next or that same day they pass away and us chicken owners always ask ourselves why it happens when we take good care of them. We always feel horrible when they pass away. But we know we try are best to keep them in doing fine and they will always be in our hearts and memories. Things just have to happen and it is hard we have lost a couple of them. A couple weeks ago we lost a bantam chicken I remember the day before she was fine I even cooled her off from the heat and next morning she passed away we never expected. It has been hard I still imagine her with her flock but she is not physically here. Also a month or 2 before her we lost our only sumatra chicken all of a sudden it was hard too. But we got to keep going and doing our best for our other chickens right. So don't feel bad and we know you gave her a life she deserved. Your did your best.

Wings flapping violently are a sign they are gone, I watched the same thing happen to my girl in April. I believe she died of a heart attack as well.
I am so so sorry for your loss. ❤️💔 virtual hugs. Thank you for taking the time to respond I appreciate your insight sincerely.

Good morning and thank you also. It's understandable it's hard, but the good thing is we have to think day by day they will always be in our hearts and that they lived a good life here with us right. But for one reason or another they had to go. Your welcome I will always be here if you just need to talk. How many more chickens you have? Take care and stay strong your other chickens will help you out. Have a great day.
