What makes a good roost pole or poles?

What do you do when there is a windstorm and all the windows are open. We've set their perch so that when they are on it they are away from the windows. I really like the A frame idea but the wind concerns me. Even in the summer months we get very bad winds. I am always running out to make sure they are ok. It drives my husband crazy. Any advice?

I use 2 x 4's on the flat side. My chickens love this.

@nikchic- I don't have a A frame coop but this is the windows my husband made for our coop. They work great. They can be opened all the way or closed.

They are made out of wood and plexiglass.

When there's a storm, we shut the windows just like you would shut the windows in your house when a storm comes--we don't cover them up or anything. They're house windows that were salvaged when a neighbor bought new windows. They aren't the tightest windows in the whole world, but the hens don't seem to care. The light is good for them.
