I'm sure they aren't all mean. Also, I'm sure there is a difference in temperament in the strictly commercial bunnies and the show or pet NZs too.

We were contract growers for pelfreez when we had ours and we bought our initial breeding stock from a contract grower so it's possible that the lines we were working with simply sacrificed temperament for the sake a faster growth or maybe it just wasn't practical to cull for temperament in that situation, but ours were scary mean. Like, run-for-your-life if they didn't want their boxes cleaned or ears checked today. We had a few does get ear mites once and I had to wear welding gloves to treat them with baby oil and cotton balls! Not like I was pouring hot tar on them or anything but those girls were like rabid wolves most of the time.
