I want to order 25 hatching eggs from myshire, but the temps here are about 15F. I figured i would wait untill temps are about 25F so they wont be prone to freezing. Does that sound reasonable?

Which shipping method should i use? It bothers me to pay 3x the price of the eggs in postage, but obviously it will affect the hatch rate. I thought of ordering 50 eggs but they won't all fit in the bator.
25 eggs $18
5-7 days , $27.15
2 day $59.20

There are people that order eggs when temperatures are below freezing and get a good hatch. Personally, I'd wait until temperatures are above freezing. Does that sound reasonable?

I thought of ordering 50 eggs but they won't all fit in the bator. These prices seem excessive to me, but I simply don't remember what I paid in shipping the last time I ordered eggs. Check with your post office on shipping prices. These prices probably have handling as part of the shipping. Still...

25 eggs $18 This is the price of the eggs??
5-7 days , $27.15 This is the price of the eggs and shipping?? If so, it sounds about right to me.
2 day $59.20 Again, this is the price of the eggs and shipping??. This sounds excessive.

Shipping to Alaska though, is it excessive? Maybe..but it's quite a way out.

I always check where folks are from with stated temps as 15 seemed cold for Fahrenheit. Being Alaska I'd wait a bit to ship until temps are up to 40F.

I'd also ship express. It seems pricey but if you want that stock then it's the way to go. The least time in transit is the best unless you are driving them to destination and bringing into hotel room with you nights.

Zack gives a hatch guarantee and the 5-7 day shipping is standard to your location (eggs will probably arrive closer to 5 day mark) As of last Sunday, zack was reporting 71% avg hatch rate reported on shipped eggs....they tend to hatch better in cold than hot temps

So you think it will be fine with standard shipping then with my temps?

Fertile eggs do far better in cold than summer heat for sure. I'd not ship in temp that is below freezing for more than night periods. As in Alaska right now is freezing 24/7. If left in a transit truck they wont fair well over so many hours. Fertile eggs are very forgiving but start expiring when frozen.

Guarantee hatch? So that means they ship more if none hatch? I doubt this. Standard shipping will reduce hatch rate over express. You'll get hatching but for a small percentage of cost to raise birds to maturity you'd have more hatch.

Any how, that's my opinion. I've no idea quality of stock or what you're getting. For me it takes a lot of research and time to find the exact stock I want. After that waiting until forecast shows above freezing days is little extra to wait. Paying $30 more on shipping to expedite the time in potentially devastating handling conditions is a small price to pay too.
