How long do chickens brood for ? Does it make them sick?

Chicken eggs take 21 days to hatch so this is usually how long they brood for. If a hen is sitting on infertile/dead eggs, late eggs, or no eggs at all, she can and will sit for much longer. Being broody does take a toll on the hens body. She eats and drinks less than she normally would which isn't healthy over a long period of time. She can also become vulnerable to mites/lice, heat exhaustion, and other things if she is sitting for more than her required time. If you have a broody hen and your intent is for to have chicks it is fine to let her sit. If you do not want her to hatch chicks or she has been sitting for months, it is best to break her of broodiness so she does not get sick.

I have just put some fertile eggs under my hen, she has been broody for 2 weeks already. I'm hoping she stays with them til the end
