I got my friend some ducks from the Tractor Supply assorted duck bin and we are curious to what breed they are. We've been having kind of a debate between black runner mix, cayuga, or khaki campbells, but then we also don't know the gender so we don't know if they're a naturally iridescent breed or just males of another breed. I would say cayugas because the feathers are so black and green, but tractor supply doesn't include cayugas in the assorted bin here. Plus from what i saw, the cayugas have a more horizontal stance to where these stand higher up like khakis. Additionally there's one duck that has a full white chest and half yellow/black feet that puzzle me. Additionally, I've went off of sound of their quacks before for seeing them, and these all sound (to me, but I'm not very experienced) like females. But their heads are all iridescent green. Anyone want to help? Their adult feathers aren't fully in yet but I feel they have enough to tell what color they are all over. I have a video but I'm unsure how to include it

Additionally, does anyone know how to control the flies around the pen without adding other animals like chickens?

Well, they’re definitely not Khakis.
Your black + white chested is a Black Swedish.
If Cayugas aren’t a possibility, the all-blacks are Black Runners. Though, they don’t seem to have much of a Runner stance, either.. A video of them dried off and simply walking around would help.

You can upload your video to YouTube and link it here.

Okay, thanks! It didn't process the white chested one could be a different breed than the others but it makes sense. I thought khakis because the other three when they were tiny babies looked just like khaki babies. Also I included a link to the video I took of them swimming, do you think their quacks are mature enough to say male or female? And also I will ask my friend to take a video of them walking around dry so I can get a better idea about the other three. Thanks so much!

Yes, there can be some overlap / confusion when they’re young, but if they were Khakis, they would be.. well, Khaki colored

They’re definitely mature enough to tell male from female now. Good news: I hear some female quacks! Can’t tell at all who’s who, though. A video / videos of them all separately would let me know best. Your friend could pick them up individually, or separate them one by one from the group; they’ll do a lot of talking from that!

Also.. I love that they’re swimming in a wheelbarrow 🤣

I knew they weren't full khakis at least, thought maybe khaki black runner mixes but hey its been maybe 5 years since I had my own backyard poultry haha!

A couple still have their baby chirps but I'll help her take videos of each of them to determine the sexes. She doesn't mind what breed they are, we just wanted to know because we both debate it every time I come over to who's right lol! She does desperately want to know what sex though because she wants to combine her 3 chicken hens with the ducks, but didn't want to put drakes in there for the obvious reasons of male ducks and female chickens. I'll be sure to upload a video to help her know if she can combine them asap though. Thank you!

I don’t believe TSC sells mixed breeds 🤔

Good for her doing what’s right for her chickens! If she does have any drakes, it should be another month at least til they must be separated, so she has time!

They are Cayuga/Swedish black ducks. I have one, his name is Onyx. I also got him from TSC. Beautiful birds, BTW

The flies can be controlled with pine shavings. After years of hanging fly ribbons above my duck pen, I've learned that pine shavings work beautifully
