On this day, around the time of the fall equinox, the harvest commenced, and there were great fairs and festivals.

This started the custom of early autumnal elections because it was a convenient time for people to gather. Elections were shifted to November in the American climate, where the harvest season was more stretched out.

102F at the end of October is crazy. It should be 70s/80s in late October. That's why we say the Hell Months aren't truly over and second summer doesn't end until November 1st. It was miserable. I hope I never see an October like that again!

I am glad your temps have moderated

Although not sure I can say snow is ‘pretty’. Isn’t it’s just the thing? We all strive for what the other has with regards to weather. I detest snow and want nice hot weather having dealt with snow all my life.

Seems I am getting that nice weather here these days, yesterday was the warmest November on record, we were warmer them Nashville and many places in Georgia!

Even right now it is very warm - this is not good for the plants and animals that have lived in a climate where winter is part of their survival.
