Wheezing and difficulty breathing

Have you looked into her mouth for signs of gunk that may be obstruction her airway? If you see anything in her mouth and throat that shouldn't be there, please take a photo and post it.

I wouldn't use the asthma inhaler as it's usually pretty strong steroids. If you have peppermint oil you can mix it with water in a spray bottle ans mist it over her if you don't have a vaporizer. Use the spray every half hour if you can.

Another thing that might work is to soak a bath towel in peppermint water or eucalyptus oil and wring it out well in the washer spin cycle. Then place a heating pad on lowest setting in her crate with the damp towel over it, then install your patient. The heating pad hopefully will cause the water in the towel to evaporate and cause enough humidity to help her breather during the night.

I'd hold off on the worm med until she perks up more.

Hi I made up a concoction drink from small doses powders of antibiotics, vitamins, betadine, I found some tonsillitis mouth wash with I tiny bit of worm powder. Then with a 5 ml syringe gave her about 5 syringes I did this 4 times throughout the evening/ day.
I did look in her mouth it looked clean and couldn’t see anything unusual.
Magically when I got home from work she was looking almost back to normal! She’s still a bit sooky wanting to be near me so I’ll keep a close eye on her.
I’ve no idea what caused this although I’m pleased it seems to have resolved itself. Thank you all so much for your advice.

Poor thing looks to be struggling to breathe. There is nothing in VermX that would kill serious worms such as gapeworm or capillary worms. Albendazole, fenbendazole (Panacur,) flubenvet, and levamisole are ones that are pretty bood to use.

Does she have the puffy crop still, or have you cupped your hand between her legs to feel if her belly is enlarged?
She just feels normal if not a little skinny. I thought her throat looks swollen. Nothing in her mouth as I can see straight down when she gasps. Also no mucus or sneezing

I wonder if she may have gotten something stuck in her throat, such as a larger piece of food or possible aspirated some water. She looks back to normal now, so I am glad to see that.

Our little patient looks wonderful! I'm so glad she pulled through. She sure seemed awfully sick, and it didn't look good for her after I saw the first video. Chickens sure can rebound when they put their minds to it.

I was dreading coming home from work. I didn’t think she would make it!
I really appreciate everyone suggestions. I felt very supported. Big thanks. I’ll keep up the concoction for another day or so just to give her an extra boost.
I still have her sleeping inside at night on the back of my lounge chair (with paper under )and I noticed she is gently snoring. I think her nostrils are a bit blocked. She breaths out through her mouth. However Not stressed.

You can try to clean her nostrils by applying a drop of hydrogen peroxide on her nostril with a QTip, and celaning gently with a feather quill or a toothpick. Saline is good as well, but if there is a stubborn crust, the peroxide can soften it.

Ok I’ll try to clear them tomorrow. Lol I don’t think she’s going to like it!
For future reference: Is there any trick to opening their beaks? I had a lot of trouble trying to see inside.

The trick is to get a finger into the side of the beak and then pry the mouth open. Some folks bring a hand up behind the chicken's head, and then bring the thumb and index or middle finger around the head, prying open the beak with those two fingers. It's then easy to keep the fingers there to hold the beak open.

Another trick is to pull down on the wattles and the chicken automatically opens their beak. This maneuver is good if you only need to pop a pill or something into the beak real quick.
