I usually start calling my pullets hens when they start laying but when does a cockerel become a rooster?

I think it's when they reach a year old. Same with pullets.

When does a pullet become a hen? By the dictionary definition, when she is a year old. When does a pullet start acting like a hen? From what I've seen, about the time she starts to lay. That may be as young as 4 months or many months later.

From what I've seen, when he gets control of his hormones, gains the respect of the girls, and fulfills the duties of a rooster. I've seen that as young as 5 months but usually it takes longer, sometimes a lot longer.
