where are the wonderful st. louis area chicken people ????

Hi folks! I'm not exactly near STL, but have been there many times to take DH to catch the American Queen down by the Arch. We live in western KY . It's MUCH colder here than normal; I'll be glad when this wave passes on through and we get back to more seasonal temps. Stay warm, and try to keep your furred & feathered kids warm too!

A lot of feed stores will have chicks in the spring, but if you'd rather go for started birds, check Craiglist under "farm+garden". I have seen started pullets from ranging in price $7-10 each advertised on there about once every week ot two last summer.

well, I'll be........ Hello to you all! That cold snap was brutal !! It was nice to hear from you all and I too go to the Waterloo swap meet. I like it but ... some of the animals aren't always in the best shape. Some people don't take care of their animals right. But, overall I have a wonderful time when I go to the swap. I have gotten a few good deals there and I even got my wonderful mixed breed dog there!! He turned out to be one great dog. Good luck to you all for the spring hatching season------- it can't get here fast enough for me!!!!!

I got to the waterloo swap to. I do agree that some of the animals are not in the best shape. We got some chickens there in October. We got them at 6 in the morning. We werent able to see them it was dark and guess what we forgot our flashlight

. Any way they were sick and I had bumblefoot. They all lived they are doing great now. Just letting everyone know watch what you buy there. Is anyone going to the swap on March 29th?

Hello from Kirkwood. I know of another gentleman by the recycling center with chickens too. I would like to get a local chicken raiser group together. Let me know!

Hello,

I am north of Edwardsville, IL. (Am I close to you Pinguin?) It's good to see that ther are some chicken people near St. louis!
Rooptydoo I just emailed you. I work at a hospital in St. Louis. I would like to get a group started also.

Hi! I'm in St. Louis City! I have 4 chickens, and my neighbor does too. I'd love to join a group! In fact, I have a 3rd neighbor that's going to get chicks this summer. Instead of ordering from a hatchery, would you be interested in hatching out eggs? My hens lay fertile eggs. They would hatch easter-eggers, or australorp-EE crosses.
One of my neighbors wants to order unusual breeds from McMurray Hatchery this summer, but they require minimums of 6 per breed you order... anyone want to join together and split the order so you can have variety in your flock?
I love this forum.

Hi everyone!!!!

I'd love to join a local area chicken group.

I lived in St. Louis for about 10 yrs and now I'm just east right over the river from there on 6 acres that sit between Fairview Hts & Collinsville. I'm still in St. Louis all the time. It's just a hop, skip & a jump from me.

So glad to see so many people in the area have chickens. I couldn't find to many people close to me w/ chickens when I first joined BYC.

I ordered my first flock from Cackle and hatched the following spring from reputable BYC breeders.

For those of you asking about where to get baby chicks.......Rural King will also have chicks in the spring, but usually it is straight run and you have to buy a big # minimum. Each Rural King is different in the area. I've debt w/ all three in the past.

If you are looking for a particular breed you may want to order directly from the hatchery. Cackle requires a 5 min of breed and total of 15 to ship day olds.

Another way to get a smaller order from the hatchery is to ask Rural King to put your order with theirs. They will do that sometimes.

Or some of you can get together and put your order in together from a hatchery.

Welcome to BYC and the fun chicken madness!

hey, March 21st the Heartland Classic poultry show will take place in Cape Girardeau, MO. They are hosting the Old Enlish national. Should be a lot of great birds to see as well as some nice SQ birds to buy. I'm taking 29 birds to show.
