I live in Los Angeles Ca. I have never been told by the vet my bird's wings needed to be clipped. I put the bird outside on the patio table this morning, a while later we heard a crash, when we ran outside the cage was on the floor completely broken apart and turned upside down. No sign of the bird. my elderly mother said she saw this huge cat dash away. I knew what cat it was, it is a fat stray.
There were no feathers around. I don't know if the cat ate the bird in one fail swoop or the bird flew away.
I don't know what I can do? She is not hand tamed, though I tried. She is right about 19 mos old. I don't hear her and I have called her and made noises she would mimic. A couple of hours ago I placed the reassembled bird's cage on its hanging stand outside on the patio. I have been playing parakeets chirping from the internet on my cell phone outside for hours. I don't hear my bird. She was my mother's bird, but I ended up caring for it, and she will be our last bird. Can a cat eat a bird quick enough to leave know feathers? Are the chances slim to know of getting her back if the cat didn't eat the bird? Any suggestions or cold hard facts, I would certainly appreciate it. I am heartbroken. Thanks for reading this.

Wait, was this bird's wings clipped or not? If they were not then it is dead. if they were it might have flown off. A cat can't eat a bird that fast but it can grab one and carry it away.
One time on of my budgies flew out of a window, he was not tamed but I still got him back. The muscles on cages birds are not really fit for long distance flight and I just followed him. He flew for a while and landed in a tree to rest, I climbed up the tree and spooked him, he flew out and flew into another and I climbed up and spooked him again. After that he tried to fly across a field and collapsed from exhaustion half way across and I went and picked him up. He was not prepared to be flying around out in the wild, he never had to deal with wind before.

Thank you Kessel23. Her wings were not clipped, so I guess she was carried away and sadly is dead. Thank you.

If you don't see her in a few days then she is probably dead, unfortunately. I assume that cat knocked over the cage and then got spooked by the sound of it hitting the ground and it ran off, then the budgie flew off. But the cage might have landed on the budgie and trapped it or something, we will never know for sure what happened but if she could fly then it is worth waiting a few days to see if she comes back around.

Sorry to hear about that, when I was little I lost a parakeet (a very well tamed one) in similar circumstances when we moved and were staying at an uncle's house a few days. A cat was seen slinking away from the knocked over cage. His wings weren't clipped either but we never saw him again after that, so I have to assume the cat got him.

Put her cage outside & call & pray...A lot
Thank you MissChick@dee. I am praying.

Thank you for taking the time to post. I appreciate it.

Ok. Will do. The way the cage fell over upside down. It crumbled apart where the bottom end of the cage was on top and everything else was flattened under it. There was no real room for the bird to fly away. I think the cat must have grabbed my bird and ran.
You all are very kind. I will keep the porch light on in the patio with the cage outside on the stand with food and water, not on the table. I'll put seed on the ground just in case and keep praying. Thank you.
