I am so excited & surprised 😊 I have 4 bantam babies (3 mille fleur Bearded D'uccle bantams & 1 white silkie bantam) and they are 6 months as yesterday. All 4 are confirmed pullets. I went to go clean their coop & saw two of the cutest, tiniest eggs laying in the nesting box. It has been sub zero temperatures and a lot of snow in northern Illinois, so I didn't anticipate eggs from them until the weather warmed up a bit. I thought the mille fleurs would lay before the silkie.

The eggs are very different in color. Could the mille fleurs lay different color eggs from each other or could one be from the silkie? Who do you think laid which egg?

I put a colored egg in the middle for fun for the photo. The left is tan in color and the right is a cream color.

Here is a close up of the two bantam eggs.

These are two photos of my babies because I love their little faces.

Do you think the mille fleurs laid both eggs? If not, which bantam laid which egg (tan or cream)?

Thank you so much 😊

You can tell who laid the eggs by doing a vent check and looking at the comb an wattles. Laying hens get larger, bright red combs and wattles before they start laying (I don't think this works for silkies but it does for D'uccles). Here's my D'uccle right after she started laying:

You can also check the vents. Layers have large, moist vents, while non-layers have small, puckered vents.

ETA: Congrats on the first eggs!
