Which breeds of drakes are known to be more aggressive? Pekins? Cayugas?

@KathiQuacks @cheezenkwackers do you know any answers to my questions? especially the one about the half Cayuga Drake meeting with his Cayuga mother.
The 2 pure Pekin boys I’ve had so far have been both kind, yet assertive top ducks who rarely back down from a fight. My current Pekin & Pekin-mix are very good with their own ladies, but will poke, prod, and chase any uninterested hens.

I don’t have any experience with Cayugas.

Pekins are the most abundant / wanted duck breed, so perhaps they’d be easier to sell, but also wouldn’t go for as much as other breeds.

Agreed, your Cayuga boy could father pure-looking ducklings.

So my OG cayugas had some mix in them. They looked all Cayuga when I got em (or did to me at the time - I was a new Cayuga mama at the time), but they had I think maybe more yellow on their breasts than pure Cayugas. They grew up solid black, but my girl never laid the dark eggs characteristic of Cayugas. I got some from a different farm the following year that I believe were (more?) pure Cayuga - babies were jet black and now lay dark to light eggs per breed standard. None of my other Cayuga ladies have done that - I think because the OGs (who have contributed to every generation since) weren’t full Cayuga.

Tl;dr: So if you really want to sell full Cayuga babies, you should get a full Cayuga boy. I love to see what pops up in a good mix, but if I was looking for a full Cayuga, I’d feel cheated if babies showed up with dominant traits from their great grandduck dad.

Pics:
1,2,3) the two OGs - my boy (really green head Pic 2) has a yellow spot on his breast as a baby and a yellow beak as an adult.
4) L-R pure Cayuga girl and her baby boy, also yellow beak, and OG Girl (b&w)
5) L: OG pair’s baby boy (you can see the mallard face pattern) and R: pure Cayuga girl (all black)

this is helpful thanks. and they’re all so pretty 🤩

Back to the original question of which is more aggressive, I have a young Pekín drake who flocks up with my Welshies. The “white” flock and the “black” flock self segregate, so not a lot of squabbles between drakes. The Pekín seems a lot more willing to take it to the chickens when they get nosy, and he seems to be of the mindset that he won’t pick a fight, but he sure will finish it. I think he’s figuring out that he’s the biggest bird in the yard and has the law of gross tonnage on his side, lol.

The Cayuga boys, on the other hand, defend their girls when it suits them. Thanks, guys!! 🙄S’ok, though - I have video of one of my broody Cayuga girls taking on the rooster and winning!

i have a 4 month old standard pekin drake and a 3 month old cayuga/fawn&white runner drake.
i only want to keep one. i have 16 hens but 6 of them are elderly and 2 of the one year olds have prolapsed twice each and so i just don’t want too much action around here lol. i’ve been watching them, but it’s hard to tell if either has a rough personality yet or not. and i know someone who will take the pekin, but not the cayuga mix.

I was also thinking in the future if I keep the pekin, he can make pekin babies with my pekin hens. and they might be more valuable to have and/or sell.
If I keep the Cayuga mix, and he mates with his Cayuga mother, will the babies be real Cayugas? and therefore possibly more valuable?
( they would be 3/4 cayuga?)
the Cayuga mix drake i have is a charcoal color.

I think I did once hear that Pekin drakes are known to be more aggressive than other breeds??? Is this true?
My Cayuga ducks and the 1 drake are very laid back, I'd anything, my drake gets kicked around from the females lol they're quite mostly and don't bother my runners. They all get along very well. I have been wanting another drake and I've read the silver are also laid back. I'm hoping to get a pair of silvers this weekend or the near future. I can let you know my experience as it processes 💙🖤🩶
