Which hatchery is the best to buy Sebrights?

I am looking to buy some sebrights chicks. I wanted to see if anyone had a favorite hatchery. There are some many to choose from. I would look all the advise I would get. I would really like to be able to choose the sex I wanted, but I haven't found any luck with that. I would like to find one close to Indiana that way the chicks didn't have to travel so long. Thanks

i think the only way you're going to be able to choose genders is to get started or grown birds. these guys are too little to be vent sexed. anyone know if they can be feather sexed?

my advice would be to find a breeder locally and get some young stock.

I am been looking for local breeders but there aren't any around me. I got my hen at TSC this spring. I have advertised in all the places that I can think of. I haven't had any luck.

do you have a local agricultural fair in the autumn? what about your extension service? any breeders of other breeds who might know a guy whose cousin knows a lady who breeds sebrights?

Hi,
I am from central IN. I am interested in bantams too and love the sebrights. I recently placed an order from My Pet Chicken for standard chicks. Received 9 perfect chicks and they are doing well. They also have sexed bantams. I almost ordered some, but was kind of nervous about ordering anyway so stuck to standards. The sexed bantams are pricey, but that was what appealed to me since I only want females. May give it a try later if I place another order.

I have talked to several local breeders that know a lot of people. They don't know of any one that breeds sebrights. One was the 4-H leader for many years. He didn't know of anyone. I just thought I could get some from a hatchery. I didn't know if one was better than another one. This would be my first time ordering from one. Thanks

i'm sure there are hatcheries with fine stock, i'm just not sure you can get them sexed, which you mentioned as being important. GRAM49, though, seems to think you can. i placed my own order through MPC (meyer) and so far, so good for customer service. i haven't actually got the chicks, yet, though, heh heh, so i can't speak to that.

edit: and i've just peeked at meyer's page. they only sell straight run. MPC doesn't have sebrights, but does sex bantams (not sure how or why, since meyer doesn't, but they sure do get a premium for it!!)

edit 2: mcmurray also only sells them straight run. i suspect that further google-fu will also yield straight run only chicks. you could always gamble with straight run and get rid of the excess birds. *shrugs*

I have also looked there. They want $7.00 for pullet/hen. I have found several different hatcheries that sell chicks for 2.00-2.44. I thought I could take my chances and go the cheaper way. That way I could get alot more for the same price. I know I may get half roosters. I am just not knowing what to do. I really want about 10 hens and 2 roosters.

I just checked the My Pet Chicken site and they apparently don't have sebrights currently, but do have other banty's. Sexed are $7 extra, so you have to really want them.
