Why are my chickens screaming every morning?

Look for sign...droppings.
Move bedding and look for tunnels.
If you see one rat, or mouse, repeatedly......there are many more.
Lots of snap traps or poison bait, both properly placed, is the best way to go.
Do it know, before they multiply.
I agree!!!

It is really a process to eradicate them if they are established. It took me months to get the mice out of my pole barn. I used sticky’s and snap traps, didn’t want them dying in the insulation of my walls. Make sure to remove any food sources they might be accessing.

I had rats in one of my coops and saw evidence of them in the barn. I put rat baits in the barn where other critters couldn't get to it but I knew the rats could. I did fine some dead rats. Once they eat the poison they look for water and die. I did not find a dead rat in the walls I took out of one coop. We stupidly put plywood on the inside of the coop too and the rats chewed holes and were building nest in the walls. No more inside walls. I also put a ceiling in and took the ceiling out too because they got in the ceiling. I haven't seen a rat or any evidence in quite awhile. I do have some rat baits in the barn and they haven't been touched in awhile either.
