Why do a lot of people give their chickens "little old lady" names?

We have:

Penelope
Leona
Lentil
Pinto
Yolko
Beatrice
Magda - my fave hen

.......and then my 5 year old got the chicken naming bug - his is called 'Peckerhead", because she pecks your head.
I said; "Peckerhead?? Fine then, you tell Grandma." Grandma was very impressed at his logic.

We have a Curious Georgette, Henrietta, Justine, and... Chicken. You see, Georgette, Henrietta, and Justine all came out of the coop and into the run the first day we installed them. Chicken was, well, chicken.

Oh My I quit naming chickens years ago. Although I do call the meaties Dinner or Brunch

Sailor, Carbon, Turtle, Celebi, Sinistra, Sera, Serena, Alpha, and Beta here. We prefer our unusual names!

I have Charolette, because she is a piggy but Wilbur wouldn't work for a girl, and Penelope because of the movie since she had a piggy nose. As you can tell it's because of old ladies but because they are piggies

Now the ones my daughter named
Sparkler
Sparkles
Dovey
Hawk
That One
Little
Goldie
etc...

But of course she is 9 and still loves the silly names for pets

My rooster was named after a Bond villain and my hens were named by their characteristics. IQ was smart. Robin was red. Shadow was black. De and Vo were siblings. And Buffy was a Buff Orpington.

Of the new chicks, the australorp-looking one is Oreo. The various production reds are called "that one".
