Hi! My DH is a deer hunter and we have 5 acres of land for him to hunt on. Back in the day before me;) his roommate had a bunch of cats and he build an outdoor fenced pen for the cats. It is still there with lots of fence on the top and a cathouse that would make a great chickenhouse. It would need some fixing up, not too much.

I want this for my chickens but DH claims this would deter the deer from that area. My DH would not shoot my chickens, but according to him the deer won't come around that area b/c of the chickens. He has a deer corn feeder 40 ft from the cathouse.

So any opinions would be welcomed.

I'm not sure what deer are like around you, but here they will continue to graze in the back yard when my dog is out on her lead, barking her head off. But, as for chickens, I don't really know if they will keep deer away or not. I'll bet that they'd enjoy the corn, though!

Keep deer away? How big are these chickens?

no we have deer tracks 2 ft from our coop an see them every night around 8 maybe 40 yrds from our coop.may even help they like free meals were do you live in our state you cant hunt on only 5achers. tell him if he does not get a deer it is due to lack of hunting tallent an not your chickens.lol

Not unless they grow two more legs and start barking

I have 5 Maremma Sheepdogs, and deer will walk by right outside the fence no matter how much the dogs bark

My chickens stand under the apple tree and share the fallen apples with the deer and their new born fawns. I love watching the one chickens eat the pieces the deer drop. They Stan right under the deer.
