Will Ducks mate with different breeds?

I have a male pekin and a female black runner. The females mate was killed a few nights ago and I was just curious if the pekin would mate with her? And if so does that cause any issue to the egg or hatchling? She has never laid eggs before (I got them this past Easter) but it may not be until around Easter next year before I could find her another mate. Just curious.

Ducks will definitely breed with other breeds, so he will definitely mate with her. If they are your only two ducks I'd get a few more girls so that the drake does not hurt your female by mating with her too much. There will be no problems with eggs or ducklings caused by them being mixed breeds. The only trouble you could run into mixing breeds would be if you bought a Muscovy female and he mated with her and you hatched the ducklings from it. Since muscovies are a different species than pekins and the other mallard-derived breeds, the offspring hatch infertile, like mules, and are called mule ducks. Otherwise they are fine, though.

Thanks for the answer! I bought them as hatchlings. I had a male and female pekin and same with black runner. The female pekin came up missing about a month after we got them. Since then the male pekin has always stayed to himself. The mate to my black runner was killed a few nights ago so it never worried me about them cross breeding until now.
Another quick question. Is it strange that she has never laid eggs before? If no then when should I start expecting that to happen?

She's probably around five or six months old if you got her at Easter, right? That's about the time they start laying, so it's not weird that you haven't gotten eggs yet. I'd expect them in the next month or two :)

My neighbor has 2 different breeds. I think one is a pekin, but I haven't been able to identify the other (not a pekin for sure though). They mate. I'm actually incubating one of their eggs right now, and nearing hatch time!

I have 3 different breeds of ducks, Pekin being the largest. then Rouen and the smallest are the Golden300's The male are one each Rouen and Golden. They mate with anything they can catch. It is hilarious watching them try to pin the Pekin gals, They are so big comparatively, its quite a reach for them. On the other hand it is almost tragic watching them with the tiny golden girls. Im just sure they are going to kill them. Your big Pekin boy on that little runner is going to be a bit brutal, but they should be fine and the ducklings they could produce could be so cute! I love a hinze57 duckling ;-) Drakes are the rapists of the fowl kingdom. It seems to be easier on them since I gave them a pond to mate on but it still looks like the girls are going to get drown. Nature is a glorious thing Im sure but I just cant watch anymore.
