Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Here's something to get you started. At the bottom of the form is a phone number. Best to call and talk to someone. I'm in the process of becoming an LLC (Limited Liability Company)( so if I sell a bad egg they can't take my house) but don't have the money right now.http://www.dor.state.wi.us/forms/sales/s-211.pdf

CL stands for Craigs List. Here is their site. Pick your county on the right side of the screen. Then find Farm & Garden under the "For Sale" colum.

That's a good price for feed. Do you know what kind of chicke starter they carry?

Here is the LLC info.

thank you for the information, I will have to look into it further when I get home tonight.

As far as the feed price, i'm not sure as to chick starter, but will be inquiring soon on a trip to the place. I am getting some of the information second hand, but that is the price for feed my friend paid the last few years. And also the price for day old pheasants was only like 1.25....I'm interested to find out with my own two eyes a ears for sure!

good morning, yet.. I have been lurking since about 8 AM..

3 chicken eggs already today and 1 turkey egg.. I was out of layer mash and the chickens quit laying.. they have been back on the mash for 2 days and are laying already.. I even got a pullet egg..

New Joe, don't get too caught up on the protein % thingy. for broilers.. personally, I am going back to ground oats (300 pounds) and corn(400 pounds) for my basic feed. I am not liking the mash type feed for my eating chickens..

In fact, yesterday, I just bought 300 pounds of the feed mill's layer formula.. so if it works for me, I might be going away from mash altogether..

one note about the chicks picking on the newbies.. just keep an eye out for blood.. It seldom happens, but once in awhile the chicks get too exuberant, and pick at one spot too much.. it can cause a spot of blood and then they cannot help themselves, and they will pick at it too much.. at that point you will have to remove the bloody chick..

..........jiminwisc...........

my main concern was if 29% is too high for broilers or would it be even more beneficial?

NJ are you sure you want to get into pheasants?

we go through this protein % thingy every once in awhile.. like I said, I don't pay much heed to it.

I do know that a friend of mine once raised a Hereford steer and was pushing the protein to it very hard.. all of a sudden the hair started falling off of that steer by the hands full. the vet said it was getting too much protein..

It makes me wonder about some of the people who complain that their chickens are molting so often or so long, that maybe they are pushing too much protein also..

It takes a certain amount of fat to help digest protein.. so if you are pushing the protein, give the birds some sort of animal fat/meat .. (insects) (meat trimmings)

If you were in the wilderness and eating nothing but rabbit, you could literally starve to death..

remember, you pay for that extra protein.. is it worth the added expense ? IDK,, just askin'.

don't take too much stock in my way of doing things.. I am not a "purist" when it comes to my birds.. I keep their bellies full, and if they look fat and sassy, I am satisfied..

Kintucks !!!! So glad I'm from SE WI !!!! I'm one of the normal ones up here !!! Better be careful, they truely are all related up here and who knows who's lurking !! LOL

CL = Craig's List

BBP, If I were a hen snatched by an eagle, I would be more than angry, I think..

I have a real nice Blue Laced red wyandotte rooster.. but I have no hens.. If somebody could find me a nice hen or two, I could hatch some chicks .. this rooster is the one who gave me 79 pullets out of 84 eggs.. If roosters are the gender gene carrier, I have a gold mine..

BTW. is there a spell check here on byc? I know it underlines an incorrectly spelled word, but how do you correct it? Never mind.. I found it.. "wyandotte" is still underlined, but the spell check did nothing to it..

JVLS-

Well I have always liked pheasants and would like to get into some of the more ornate ones! I have a bunch of my friends that would also like to see me get into it for dog training purposes. The only reason I am entertaining the idea is....free material! fencing, flight pen material, and eggs. I am able to get all of these things free. I have been on this earth long enough to realize NOTHING is free in the end, but what the hell!

It looks like I will be taking a trip to the mill and seeing what I can get.

thanks,

Joe

Afternoon All!!
Woke up this morning to the sound of the blade clearing the snot off the road! I just burrowed in the bed covers a little deeper....Until the dogs made me get up!

Drove out to Abendroths to pick up some pullets for our seminar next week. I will post the seminar info once I talk to DH. It's in Mazonmei, Mazonmionaaa, Mazomenmian....crap I need to look up how to spell the town.....ah... Mazomanie. I don't know all the details since in kinda went in one ear and out the other day when he told me about it! LOL! All I know is that I had to pick up chick for it. They were supposed to hatch today but the hatched yesterday. Anywhooooo..... I will post a Public Peep Announcement a little later today.

Had a great meet up with TO to give her those little Moderns. Poor things! They don't have their little Rhodie body guards to keep Eli at bay! Hopefully he will settle down and enjoy the company!

BBP-sorry to hear about your mom Lavender.

NJ- In a nut shell, Game bird feed in to high in protein for meat birds. If the meaties get to much protein they end up growing to fast and can die from complications.

Had more to say but can't remember and the little chicks are all cheepy in the brooder...
Later!
