When we drove through (I think, its been awhile) Montana about 7 years ago, my hubby got pulled over for speeding, the officer requested a check for the amount before we could leave

I made sure he slowed down through the rest of that state LOL. It was very odd and felt weird, but he was as serious as could be about paying before leaving, I forgot to ask what would happen if we did not have money with us.

usually i have had very positive interactions with officers, so i think that this guy was the exception, not the rule. the whole day was bad anyways though..nothing turned out right it seemed. maybe it was an omen to stay home or something?

How much past the speed limit did the cop say you were going? I thought there was a mandatory trip to the station if it was 20 ish mph over...........

Something is definitely out of whack now. By law (and no, I am not an attorney, but I watch lots of Law and Order...

), you have to be arraigned on a charge within 24 hours (any real attorneys feel free to correct me) and at arraignment, you get your bail set. And, I have never known court clocks to stop for the weekend when it comes to your civilc/constitutional rights.

But then again, I have never heard of needing bail for a speeding ticket...I am just thoroughly confused now and am very confident that I will not be going anywhere near Oklahoma!

I would be calling my attorney... gah!

he said we were doing 67 in a 55 mile an hour zone..we weren't though! trust me, if he were speeding, i would've told him it was his own fault, but i was being paranoid anyways because we saw a few people that were being pulled over along the way. i don't know, the whole thing is just stupid and i have NEVER heard of this happening before. what i think though, in retrospect is that he got us when we sped up to pass this guy doing 35-40..i dont know, because i didnt even see him until we saw his lights.

Many years ago, my DH and I were going from Fl to visit good friends in another state, it was after dark, we weren't sure the Rd # we needed to take, pulled over, turned on light, checked atlas..shortly we see blue lights, pulls in behind..LEO tells dh to get out of car!!..he does ..LEO says we clocked you on RT so & so doing 20 over..you will have to come to the station..we did..(btw we weren't on that road at all)..hubby walks into the station, takes out his wallet, asked the fine amount $75.00..flips wallet open, his Fl.LEO shield quite visible..the officer takes the $75.00 sticks it in his POCKET rips up the ticket and says.."fellow LEO have to look out for one another"..oh really..I was fuming..my dh just said let it go, I'm glad I didn't have to stay any longer..he could have called back home and sat it out at the jail and got it taken care of ..but it was almost Deliverance revisited!!..(I'm reading back over this and asking myself..what was my point?..) I guess this kind of thing has been going on a long time in other areas.btw..this was over Thanksgiving also..I guess over the years we have gotten $75.00 worth of laughs..lol

You poeple who live in police states, I suppose.

F'real, I have never heard of a cop taking money on the spot for anything (except in Tijuana) and I'm appalled that this is even something that can happen in this country.

Just another reason I distrust and despise the po-leece and thank God that I'm a Californian.

Never in my life would I hand $ over to a cop. You have rights, like looking at the radar gun. If he can't produce the evidence the SOL. You can aslo request another officer, and I think I would have gotten on the cell ASAP to 911 so the entire event would have been recorded......

I think I'll stay away from OK myself. What a crock! Getting hauled off to jail for a non-speeding ticket? What happened to due process? And something called the Bill of Rights?

This whole situation smells..........
