Wrath's Marans

Not much of an update really, been super busy trying to get the Marans coop expanded. Then my Brother showed up for a week to hang out and talk chickens... (He's not into chickens, but I am🤣)
The second 12 week cockerel decided he is ready to start crowing now finally, so that's always fun hearing that.

The dominant one of 'the Hateful Eight' crew decided to get into it with Raven with her two little BBS nearby while free ranging. His biggest mistake was not paying attention to how close Kong was, so he got a quick tune up of the rules. I've since noticed he has an interesting perimeter he maintains now.

My mistake was not getting video...🤣

For now, just pics of 2 of the 12 week old pullets who offered to help mow after the lawn is already mowed...typical teenagers 😉

Looks like you hired a couple of great lawn care specialists here. Your summer mowing days are OVER! 🤣

"Wait, the hen doesn't need a rooster to lay eggs?!"
I gave a friend some fresh free eggs. She had never had home raised eggs.
She asked me if green eggs had gone bad???? 🤣
They would be dragging the coop behind their camper. How many campgrounds allow that? 🤣
Ok, have the perfect solution for them. They make campers called toy haulers. The front in a nice travel trailer for people. The back section is a large room that opens on the rear to haul 4-wheelers or motorcycles, etc.

Add some ventilation, some nest boxes, etc. Perfect for a couple hens. They can tell the campgrounds the hens are emotional support animals! :gig

Ha! It's amazing how many people have never seen a live chicken before. I remember a kid coming out to the farm way back when I was a kid, he was from an inner city, and when he heard a rooster crow he totally freaked out and was so excited and wanted to know what it was 🤣

I wonder why they don't sell rainbow dozens at the store? That would be fun!

Yes, the big craze was transitioning from white to the farm fresh browns, but it stopped there. Maybe because they are a hybrid...not breeding true, or not enough to meet production quotas.
I would think the greens would be pretty well standard now with so many EEs on the table.

I don't get out much but the only rainbow eggs I see are personal sellers, I've never seen any even at a farmers market.

My EEs lay well but probably still not as much as a production hybrid, maybe they aren't profitable for large scale? Or too risky to try and have consumers not buy them 🤣

Meh, maybe there's still that 'eww' factor like @NanaK said.

"Green eggs and Ham, anyone?"

I only have the 1 EE but she's not very consistent, still trying to collect enough to incubate. I gave 3 away before I decided to start collecting, have 3 collected but I'm pretty sure one is a double yolker.

And now she been on a 3-4 day break so far.

This will be a curiosity test as last year I set 5 eggs under Momma the broody Marans and hatched out 3 boys. 🙂
