You won't regret them! With this cold, I have just 2 birds looking 100% happy and comfortable, and that's 1 of my Ameraucanas and the other is a silkie x EE cross. The cool thing is, they're best friends. They're the same size too, a bit smaller than my other hens, they're so adorable together!

Finally coming out of this bitter cold snap where I can at least let the birds out into the runs today. Dealt with a couple frozen water lines and a dead battery on the daughters minivan so hopefully that's over.

Gotta keep my eyes on the sky now, but no new pics to share.
So here's a few pics of Solo again.
Notice the comb size difference in the 2 different lines? I'm looking forward to breeding the smaller combs into mine, that will definitely lower my frostbite risk and hopefully get them closer to SOP.

She's gotten super pretty but this girl is 32 weeks and she's really making me wait for that first egg.
If she don't start by 40 weeks I'm considering changing her name to 'Faulty'

Wow, 32 weeks and no eggs, it must be because of the winter. I have a 22 week old SFH and I'm sure she's laying. I got 3 perfect little silkie eggs from the pen she's in, but there are only 3 silkie hens in there and one is molting and I'm sure she isn't laying. When my other SFH pullets started, their eggs were exactly like a silkie egg too, so yay! I think I have a new layer!!!

Just posting some older pics of Poppy (Dec) just because he's her (Solo's) only hatch mate of my future BBS Silvers. And to say I tentatively secured another dozen shipped eggs from @Bantambird for Spring for more. Super duper excited to get some more.

I'll get some updated pics of him soon as he's filled out quite a bit more since these.

Sounds like lots of additions to your project. So you’re adding Cayuga ducks for black eggs, CCL for blue and marsbars offspring, Guinea fowl for noise, turkeys for more noise and big speckled eggs, ameraucana for more blue eggs, and a bunch of different colors to your existing Marans. Did I miss anything? Surely you have room for a trio of peafowl. Maybe a couple hundred quail, they are small you wouldn’t even notice them.

That’s quite ambitious I’m looking forward to reading all about them.
