Young cockerel in city without flock

How difficult was it for your parents to agree to ducks? As a mom, I would be much more inclined to allow one of my offspring to keep a roo than ducks. I love ducks, but they are messy and their water needs frequent changing. So if my kids were super good duck caretakers, I'd probably agree to one little rooster - especially if that little rooster was doomed otherwise. Just my two cents.

BTW - I think it very kind of you to care about this little guy and his fate. Speaks volumes about your character.

Ah sounds adorable! I would love to be able to keep the little guy, just cautious about noise levels. Do you live in a residential area? And if so how do you keep him relatively quiet? He is so cute and I would love to keep him
Thanks
I can't do a dad-blasted thing to hush up my roos, other than to keep the coop and run dark until I open it up in the morning. That seems to help. I sealed up the window that faces the sunrise, and that seems to help. It buys another hour of quiet in the morning. Of course, if something disturbs them in the night, all bets are off! My son, who works a very late shift, has been warned - under penalty of lost car keys and locking up the computer - that he has until nightfall to get the trash and recycling around front. If it waits until he gets home from work, the chorus begins ... and lasts for over an hour. After finding the recycling bins blocking his bedroom door one morning, DS's been pretty good about it!
And yes, I live in a residential area. My daughter has a waiver due to being an active 4H member, but even so, I am blessed with very tolerant neighbors!

Hi everyone,
After much begging and grovelling, I think I have convinced my parents that if I keep him in the complete dark till morning and do my best to keep him quiet throughout the night, I can keep the cockerel!
I was wondering if layers pellets would be okay feed wise? That's what I feed my ducks at the moment but he is only 6 weeks and I read something about kidney failure?

Thank you all for all your help on here!

Yay! Congrats to you and the rooster!

Layer pellets have calcium he doesn't need. All flock would probably be better.

You can feed all your birds flock raiser, grower, or all flock with oyster shells on the side for anyone actively laying.

Hi
I feed my ducks layers at the moment that has verm-x in it and this means I don't have to medicate them as well. I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar product available here with the same medication that is an all-flock or similar?

Thank you!

Verm-x seems to be a probiotic? The website is kinda vague. There are many probiotics you can add to food/water, and if you prefer verm-x, it appears to be available as a supplement.
