NY - Coturnix Quail Hens and a few Items

I'm moving and have to find a home for my quail. There are 7 hens that were hatched last spring/summer, they are the brown jumbo type. They are happy, healthy, very friendly and have been well cared for. I have about 25 pounds of feed that will go with them. I also have some quail items for...

    Partridge Penedesenca Photos

They are not a recognized breed by the APA so you ca't show them at APA shows, but depending on the individual show regulations you may be able to show them if they have a class available to show them.

    Basque Hens?

Chicken breeds here in the US (sorry for being US-centric) are a big deal, but in the Old World virtually every region, and to some extent, village has its own particular chicken breed/type. People in those areas may remain loyal to a particular local breed but the excitement over rarity just...

    Quail Tractor ???

I also live in NY and occasionally put my quail into a "tractor" for the day. I would have them in it 24/7 but I have major problems with predators here (large and small) so I only put them out when I'm around. Keeping your quail on the ground is harmless. A lot of people make you think that...

    Should I move the roo?

Depends on the rooster's personality but in my opinion I would remove him. Its not worth the risk. I've never noticed a rooster killing chicks, but I've had hens kill them so there is a good chance. Its always safest to separate a hen and her chicks for a couple weeks at least.

HELP! Turkey with bad bite and tear-

Birds can be really tough and I have seen them pull through some really nasty injuries. Try to limit the stress on him as much as possible. Try to treat him as quickly and quietly as possible and then put him in a clean environment out of direct light so he feels secure. I can't really give...

    Baby wood duck won't eat

Wood ducklings are notoriously difficult to feed without their parents to show them. Some require a varied diet including live food to stimulate them. Try adding small meal worms and crickets to the feed dish. Adding a domestic duckling of the same age/size can also help via "monkey-see...

Any problems with keeping jap quail in a fish tank?

Japanese quail produce a lot of ammonia (much more per pound than chickens) and would be unhealthy in an aquarium. I feed my adult Japanese a laying ration which has 20% protein. Growing quail need very high levels of protein but adults can do just fine at 20-25%.

    How to sanitize my incubator?

I soak the bottom tray and wipe the other parts in a bleach solution, rinse and then dry in the sun. The sun does a nice job of killing germs too!

Are my quail confused ... or is this normal...

Coturnix are on a whole other schedule compared to other poultry... they normally lay their eggs in the evening.

    Feed question?

I have a flock of Coturnix that I keep for laying eggs. I used to feed Purena Game Bird Layena and they did really well, but then I switched to Purina's Flock Raiser as its good for multiple species. I have found it to work just as well and my birds remain healthy and continue to lay quality...

How high should I make my Jumbo Brown Coturnix Cages?

I have never had a problem with "popcorning" with my Jumbo Coturnix. In my opinion jumbos are the most laid back and relaxed animals and I've never had them bounce up and hit the ceiling. 8" is really too low of a ceiling height in my opinion. The birds should be able to stretch and exercise...

    California Valley Quail - NY

I have 1 bonded pair of California Valley Quail for sale. $20/pair. They are 1 year old and are real beauties. I will not ship as I believe shipping is far too stressful on these birds. I am located 30 miles north of Albany.

Penedesenca/Marans Breeder in Old Town, Florida?

A few years ago I purchased a small batch of dark egg layers (Pens and Marans) from a breeder in Old Town, Florida. I've searched and searched but I've lost all my old emails. I really love the quality of the Marans and would like to have some more shipped if they are still in business. If...
