Hi! My name is Meghan and I live in Beautiful Pittston, Maine with my wonderful Hubby Eddie and our two children: Ethan is 6 and having a GREAT time in Kindergarten (and currently wants to know how tar is made, so send me an e-mail if you know), and Riley is adorable and 3. I am SO VERY lucky...
Haven't gotten quite as brave as you. My group doesn't smell yet, so they are still in.
I did do a massive, and somewhat depressing, search here and on other forums.. and found posts where eggs didn't hatch until day 25. Since that's where I'm at, I'm sitting through one last day for them...
Ya got me there, PC. (where's the blushing smiley when you need it?) I did let them run around the house for awhile, but with no chicken diapers, cleaning up the poop was starting to feel like a full-time job!

I was told by a farmer to cull any hen who ate an egg. He didn't think they could be stopped, either.
I have had my girls eat a softshell that was in the nest once, though (I knew because it was slimy, and there was some slime on a few of the other eggs). Never had one intentionally break and...
I still have my 'chicks' taking up space in my laundry room (they are ... lessee... 14wks now) LOL! But.. in my defense it is still very cold here. High temps in day sometimes not above freezing. Lows occasionally in single digits or even below zero...
And I just like to see their cute...
I think they look like mini-chickens at that age!
Great looking group... all except those turkens. LOL! Just kidding.. even those are cute at that age, with their little friar tuck 'dos.

Ok.. just attempted to make sense of this thread.. and realized there was really no sense to be made.
Just a shot in the dark here... but I'm thinking brain injury. Hurry, use that phone and call someone to take you to the hospital!
Meghan
Good luck to you!
My hatches have been horrible, too, so after the current group has passed their due date (2 more days... trying to hold onto hope), I'm giving it up for awhile.
It's just so heartbreaking when nothing makes it.
How did you get the previous batches of eggs? Shipped...
Umm.. nothing. LOL! We have the Village Archery store... they make pretty good pizza. Does that count? And I think the owner knows us by name.
There is only one other store in town.
We love it here, though

Ok, Pedro, just finished reading the thread.
Wow, this is heartbreaking! I just can't imagine. I'd be a crying mess. I'm so sorry that you've had to go through this.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of your babies (and especially the little ones who are still struggling.). I...
Gotta go back and read all the posts, but did you try sugar water? I've heard that's a great way to perk them up.
I still have to read this thread though.. so forgive me if I am WAY off base. Just wanted to suggest it in case you hadn't tried.
Meghan
Wow that was rude!
OTOH, congrats on your new boy! Can't wait to see pics!!!
I want a few, but dh says NO WAY... ah well. Someday I'll find a few that need rescuing ... or maybe I'll just say they wandered into the yard and CAN'T WE KEEP THEM.. LOL!
And oh.. btw, I want PICTURES...
ARG!
My hen did that last fall. I think she was really pecking at my ring but she drew blood. I was SO MAD. She pecked me another time after that, so got some 'tough love' (I did a kill-'em-with-kindness, and carried her struggling self around the yard). She was headed for soup for a...
