I'm back to being active on these forums, because my parents said we're likely going to be expanding the coop this year! Meaning I need to get to ordering baby chicks pretty soon. We've got 4 chickens now- three hens and a bantam rooster- and would likely be upgrading to a 8x16 foot run from a...
So, after revisiting some articles warning about the dangers of Diatomaceous Earth, and now I've successfully managed to freak myself out over chemicals that could make me sick.
Any reccomendations for things to prevent mites that won't kill
me in the future? This kind of stuff manages to freak...
I can't handle the thought of eating a pet I love so much. That's what he was to me, a pet, and a really good one before his super protective rooster hormones kicked in. He'll be the only rooster in that flock, if he does live. The person we gave him to said they wanted him as a flock member. I...
I think we're going to put him up on Craigslist soon. So if anyone is near the northwest arkansas area and needs a rooster, look for that I guess. I can make an update when it's posted.
I mean, he's a huge rooster, so,
I guess he'd make a nice dinner. I just cant bring myself to kill and eat a...
My rooster, Atticus, has gotten way too aggressive. He was born in June, and started crowing late, and has now started attacking me, my Dad, the hens, and my bantam rooster. I knew he needed to leave before this but now I'm terrified he'll hurt my bantam rooster who I'd be completely devastated...
Even if it is just winter boredom, I don't think I should have two roosters together for much longer. Especially considering how aggressive Atticus has gotten towards me :(
I've already checked for lice and mites, I haven't seen any.
Atticus' behavior has definitely gotten more aggressive over the past few days to the point where I can't get into the chicken coop anymore. He guards the door and doesn't let me in, and attacks me anytime I step foot into the coop...
Finally remembered to actually post the photos.
The spots are purple-ish because of no-pick lotion I put on them to get them to stop picking at eachother.
I've looked everywhere for lice or mites, they dont seem to have anything.
Its a total of 4 standard sized birds and one bantam. They have a deerblind for a coop (pretty sure its 12 feet by 7 feet) and a dog kennel for a run that is 7.5 by 7.5 feet. I'm working on trying to give them more space...
I know this, which is why I'm so concerned about the situation. I just don't know what to do about it from here. I don't have a place to keep another rooster permanantly, but I'm really attached to both of them.
I haven't been active on the forum for a while, but I'm back now because I need advice.
All my chickens have been doing relatively well with no issues until now. Nothing has changed, with the same birds, a bantam rooster, 3 hens, and a standard sized rooster. This was a really odd flock dynamic...
I'm on my way to treating my chickens of scaly leg mites. But I'm curious if I can keep the leftover diluted permethrin? I've read that I can and that I can't. I'm making a gallon's worth but I definitely won't use it all. If I can't keep the leftovers, how do I dispose of it safely?
I don't...
I took a break from the forum while I moved my chickens into their coop. Now my chickens look like they have early signs of leg mites. The edges of their scales are peeling and starting to raise slightly. I've got today and tomorrow (I've got school during the week) to clean out my coop and...
