What brand makes a good incubator for goose eggs? I'm not looking for anything really large, just maybe 8-10 eggs. Do you use a separate hatcher? What has given you the best success?
Thanks
a gander penis. For obvious reasons I am afraid to google it. I tried to vent sex my two 6 month old geese today and I am not sure what I am looking at. I used one of my for sure female geese for comparison and I think my boy is a boy but I can't be positive. If anyone happens to have a photo I...
Our chicken tractor is called the Paddy Wagon. It's 4x8 and we have six chickens. The base is 2x6 lumber and 3/4 inch exterior grade plywood. We used some bicycle tires for the rear and 4x4 posts for the front. It is a bit heavy but two people can easily move it.
The walls were built in...
I have a two week old slw cockerel who isn't getting any tail feathers. All the girls (same age) have them sprouting but he has no signs at all. He is healthy in every other way but a little undersized. Does anyone have any ideas? Do cockerels just develop slower? Is this a slw thing?
Happy Easter everyone. Post pictures of your new babies. This year we only have two rouens, but we are expanding into the world of chickens (exciting) and our goslings will be here next month.
I have a little slw cockerel and 5 slw chicks. The cockerel is quite a bit smaller than the girls, is a bit of a whiner, and has runny poo. It looks like a puddle of rust. Otherwise he is very active, eats and drinks all the time, and does everything the girls do. Is it normal for him to be so...
When my flock has gotten to one gander and three geese in size, will there be a problem them all living together during the breeding season? If one of the girls gets broody will the gander try to keep the other girls out of the house? It didn't occur to me that there could be a problem in living...
My goose house is 5' x 5'. Is that enough room for three geese? I currently have two embdens and was thinking about getting a toulouse in the spring. They would be all girls.
There was a red-tailed hawk hanging around today. How much of a threat is it to my (yarded) adult ducks? It didn't try anything and the crows finally irritated it enough that it flew off but I am a bit concerned.
I spent hours yesterday trying to find the flying duck pictures with the scene stealing turkey and I keep coming up empty. Does anyone remember what thread that was?
I have been just spot cleaning my eggs with warm water as they haven't looked very dirty but I think that may have been a mistake. Last night both dd and I got salmonella poisoning from eating bread pudding made with our eggs. The bread I had also made with our eggs. Or maybe we are sensitive to...
I got a great photo this weekend of Marina that I wanted to share. I am working on a new blog post about all the things that she finds offensive, which seems to be a lot of things. She especially is offended by my copper garden cat. (click on picture for larger view)
My khaki campbells have been developing these whispy thin feathers on their backs. They are not part of the wings but the feathers that lay over the flights when the wings are folded. They seem healthy and are active and the other ducks don't seem to be having any troubles. Is this something...
Celtic or someone with more experience than me please help. We just found a very large egg on the deck that apparently has been laid by one of my geese. I was not expecting any eggs so they have only been eating Flockraiser. The egg also has blood all over it. I looked at the geese and they look...
My geese are 6 months old now. Greta is still very slim and trim whereas Marina is nice and fat.
Greta on the right.
They spend the day in the backyard unless I am outside doing chores and then they range around. The backyard fence is 5 feet tall. Greta has on occasion taken to flying from...
I have been working on a blog for our farm and plan on showing a lot of my ducks and geese. Does anyone here have a current blog? I would love to look at them.

This morning my two female(?) geese displayed mating behavior in their pool. I thought they would only do this in the spring. Does this mean they will start laying eggs even though we are going into fall?
