I have a hen that just hatched a baby. The chick it chirping and feathered except the back of its head. Is this the yolk or exposed brain??? The mom is pecking at it.
My BO pullet started crowing :)
I'd like to get a batch of chicks from him. I have two hens that are laying regularly, an EE and a Production Black. I also have 2 BR that lay once in a blue moon :(
The cockerel is in a separate tractor with a CM. They are around 14-16 weeks, so I don't expect...
I have two Barred Rocks that quit laying over the winter. I got them from someone when they were hens & don't quite know the age. One appeared to go through a mini-molt about a month ago. Every couple of days I'm getting a soft-shelled egg from one of them that pretty much breaks as soon as...
I have three 9 week old pullets. Right now I have them on Arrow medicated starter, which I am unhappy with. It is medicated with antibiotics, which I did not realize when I bought it (newbie here). Also, I don't like what happens to the spilled feed. It forms a thick layer on the grass...
I bought a bag of Chick Start to Grow Medicated from a local feed store. That is all they carried. Can anyone tell me something about the quality of this product?
They are all supposed to be pullets. I'm nervous, because the PB's tail feathers are barely existent. This is my first flock, so I have no prior experience.
The Production Black is on the left.

Any guesses?
Hi, I've had my first chicks for two days now. I wasn't planning on getting them so soon, so I'm not totally prepared. (I went by a feed store and got the chicken fever.) Right now I have them in a plastic storage bin in my living room. I'd like to let them out to run around in our yard, but...
Hi, I'm a newbie still in the planning stages of getting a flock. After reading another post and some great advice from a member here, I'm thinking about Bantams. My main goal is farm fresh eggs, but we aren't huge egg eaters anyway, so I think we can make due with the smaller eggs. I was...
Hello, I have zero chicken experience, but I'm hoping to change that soon. I'm still in the research and planning phase. I've already learned a great deal from this site. Thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences!
