Comment by 'AudraF' in article '16' x 16' Chicken Coop Made From Pallets'

@21hens-incharge We saved A LOT of money! If it wasn't for the free pallets we never would have been able to afford to build a coop this large! Pallets are so useful and I think too often they are overlooked.

16' x 16' Chicken Coop Made From Pallets

Last Updated: 6/20/16 The coop is still under construction. It still needs the sides completed, windows finished, and paint. However it is to a point that we can put chickens in it! I will update as we progress. When I told my Dad that I wanted a 16' x 16' chicken coop, I really didn't think...

    Roo with a runny nose

I'm not sure exactly what he has, so I don't know what to tell you. If it's something bacterial, antibiotics are going to work, but I have no experience with that. Contact your veterinarian and see what they have to say, or if they can't tell you, ask if they know who to contact. That's what I...

    Eating cracked eggs?

It could also be because they have only just begun laying as well. Both a deficiency and them being "newbies" is probably factoring in.

:( I'm sorry to hear that... What concerns me a bit though, is that the foxes came out in broad daylight like that. That often means they are diseased.

    Eating cracked eggs?

I wouldn't eat them, but I'm not totally sure if it would be safe or not.....But what I can tell you is that she may be pecking at the eggs because she has a calcium deficiency, in which case oyster shells fed to her would help. Oh and I wouldn't bother cooking the eggs....they love um' raw...

    Chicken won't close her beak.

Assuming it's been fairly hot in your area, she's probably hot. They will open their mouths as you described, and pant. Also, if she gets hot enough she'll probably begin to hold her wings out from her sides. I don't know of anything else that would cause her to do this. Audra

What Type of Plastic Leg Identification Do You Recommend?

Hi! I was wondering what you use and recommend using for chicken identification. I want to use some kind of plastic leg identification for sure. So would you recommend using leg bands like these: http://www.eggcartons.com/Poultry-Leg-Bands-s/1886.htm or bandettes like these...

    Need for heat lamp

Hi! I would leave it on. When peeps are 1 day old the temperature of the brooder should be between 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit. For every week of age after that, the temperature should be dropped 5 degrees Fahrenheit. So, the lowest temperature they should be enduring at this age is 80 degrees...
