Check out the breeders' list on the Ameraucana Breeders Club website. There you can find breeders close to you who have the colors you are interested in raising. If you want to get into showing, having contact with these folks can be indispensable. I know I frequently touch base with the breeder...
I would recommend joining the Ameraucana Breeders Club and utilizing their forum also. Most folks start out with solid colors such as blacks. The color is the most established and the best in type. From there you can easily branch into splash and blue.

According to the APA's SOP, brassiness is "A term descriptive of a light yellowish metallic cast commonly found in the plumage of white and part-white varieties, and to a lesser degree in several other varieties, particularly in the hackle, wing-bow and saddle of the male; a serious defect, may...
The Java club's website can help you find quality (bred to the APA Standard of Perfection) birds. Monte Bowen in Kansas has excellent birds in large Fowl and bantam.
Go to the Rhode Island Red Club's website and you'll find a list of serious breeders of quality Reds on their forum plus a wealth of other information concerning raising, breeding and showing.
Unfortunately, at this time of year it will be almost impossible to locate that many pullets from any one breeder of potential exhibition stock. Most of the breeders I know have sold the majority of their young stock and only have on hand birds they plan on exhibiting and/or breeding themselves...
I'm giving him ACV in his water and yogurt in his food. Will dose him with cod liver oil and massage his crop. Hopefully he won't be impacted too badly.
I'll check his crop, thanks.
I noticed this afternoon that he is getting his feed wet when he eats (feeder on opposite side of cage from water). I guess water is coming back out when he eats? He does have a good appetite however.
Need some advice, please.
I have a 9 mo. old cockerel I picked up from a breeder a few days ago. He appears to be in good shape (feather condition, weight for age/breed). I have him isolated from my other birds until I'm positive he's healthy. What concerns me is that he does not seem to drink...
I agree that what you purchased will only hold 2-4 hens. I don't get the roof opening up either. Seems like that will make it more susceptible to leaking and you would have to climb up a ladder to do anything inside.
I would have at least 2 nest boxes. I have 4 hens in a tractor with only one nest and sometimes one of the girls doesn't get her turn in time and I find an egg on the ground.
If you are wanting blue eggs, then you will need to go to a breeder of pure Ameraucanas. This is the link to the Ameraucana Breeders Club breeders dirctory:

However, Stromberg's Chickens does provide chicks/hatching eggs from a breeder in...
I had the same problem geting the fan to work with the LG. I could not get it to work following the instructions, .i.e. directly wiring it into the thermostat. Finally, I ran the fan wires out through one of the same holes in the lid and connected it to an old cut off two prong plug. That got it...
